I dunno...The Bay Area Reporter reports on the political stuff every now and then when it comes up - and over a cumulation of 18 years of living in the Bay Area, that's the impression that I get.

Sexuality? pfffffft. I put mine on a shelf years ago, I doubt if I could even find it now............
I remember when it was the most important thing in the world to me, I just can't recall exactly why.

I don't think you're looking hard enough... but, sadly, I know what you mean only too well.

As I said, it just makes me uncomfortable. But any time a social preference is said to be based on a biological fact, there is a really big potential for prejudice - and that makes me very nervous.

I've been following this thread and I have to say that I agree with Julia. I keep thinking substitute black and white for gay and lesbian and nobody would be comfortable.

You are too cute Olyve! I'm thinking the patrons of Blow Buddies put sexuality first as well, but I haven't been there in years!

I just don't get the "uncomfortable" bit.

Do you really contend that biology is unrelated to associations? The science says you are absolutely wrong.

No, Phil, I don't contend that at all, although I'm not clear on what science you are referring to.

What makes me uncomfortable is all the stereotyping. I have had many friends over the years who are gay and I can not lump them together in any way other than that they are gay. Each one is an individual. I can't say that all the lesbians are butch or hate gay men or are militant or masculine or any of those things, just as I cannot say that all blacks have rhythm.

A lot of people really do fit the stereotypes though! Whether intentionally or not, San Francisco, perhaps, is a place where stereotypical is typical among gays and lesbians and thus Rick's experience rings more true there.
