Good morning, everyone, wake up slowly - and welcome to the Sunday Morning Reader's Rant

Maybe, if he's feeling well enough, the Pastor might even stop by.

Oh, there's some chai further down if you'd like.

I don't know; I think he might have been better off with a nice 3-piece suit...

1785 Oliver Hazard Perry Commander and naval hero for the US in the War of 1812. He died on this day as well, 34 years later.

1912 Gene Kelly Pitts, dancer/actor (An American in Paris, Going My Way) Forget “Singing in the Rain,” how about “It's Always Fair Weather?” The tap dancing on roller skates stars at about 2:30.

1913 Bob Crosby Spokane Wa, Bing's brother, orch leader (Bob Crosby Show)

1926 Rodolpho Alfonzo Rafaello Pietro Filiberto Guglieimi Di Valentina dies in NY at 31 -- It was a dirty job but someone has to do it. Click to see him in action!

1927 Sacco and Vanzetti executed
To this day, people review this case. It is possible that one of the men was guilty; almost certain that both were not.

On 15th April, 1920, Frederick Parmenter and Alessandro Berardelli, in South Braintree, were shot dead while carrying two boxes containing the payroll of a shoe factory. After the two robbers took the $15,000 they got into a car containing several other men and were driven away.

Several eyewitnesses claimed that the robbers looked Italian. A large number of Italian immigrants were questioned but eventually the authorities decided to charge Bartolomeo Vanzetti and Nicola Sacco with the murders. Although the two men did not have criminal records, it was argued that they had committed the robbery to acquire funds for their anarchist political campaign.

The story is long and complex and the truth has been lost in the confusion. What is known is that Sacco and Vanzetti were found guilty as much of being Italian immigrants with the wrong politics, as they were of the robbery.

On August 23, 1977, Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis signed a proclamation declaring, "Any stigma and disgrace should be forever removed from the names of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. We are not here to say whether these men are guilty or innocent. We are here to say that the high standards of justice, which we in Massachusetts take such pride in, failed Sacco and Vanzetti." 1947 Pres Truman's daughter, Margaret's 1st public singing concert

“Though conceding that Miss Truman was "extremely attractive," Paul Hume, the[Washington] "Post's" music critic, stated bluntly that "Miss Truman cannot sing very well" and "has not improved" over the years.

Some day I hope to meet you. When that happens you'll need a new nose, a lot of beefsteak for black eyes, and perhaps a supporter below!

Pegler, a gutter snipe, is a gentleman alongside you. I hope you'll accept that statement as a worse insult than a reflection on your ancestry

1989 Yusef Hawkins was shot to death on August 23 in Bensonhurst, a heavily Italian American working-class neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Hawkins and three friends were attacked by a crowd of 10 to 30 white youths, with at least seven of them wielding baseball bats. One, armed with a handgun, shot Hawkins twice in the chest, killing him.

Hawkins had gone to Bensonhurst that night with his three friends to inquire about a used 1982 Pontiac automobile that was for sale. The group's attackers had been lying in wait for black or Hispanic youths they believed were dating a white neighborhood girl. Police later said Hawkins was not involved with the girl.

Quiche and chai...what a lovely Sunday morning breakfast! And what a beautiful lake!

There was a tiny touch of fall in the air early this morning. It's gone now, but it was quite nice while it lasted.

Somewhere I have a photo of myself standing on that log, well out over the lake. The water is clear to the bottom.

The only difficulty is getting there. It's only a mile hike, but it's 1000 feet up. At the time, I was a heavy smoker; it took me considerably more than the 45 minutes estimated for the trip up!

Ranters, we need your help!

Doug has asked us to limit the size of pictures that we're uploading. We need to size them to no more than 500 pixels wide and use them sparingly enough so that they don't cause formatting problems. Large, multiple illustrations create serious server load issues and slow everything down or can crash the system.

This is what 500 pixels wide looks like:

Please make sure your pictures are this width or smaller. Check with a mod if you are having trouble.

Thanks for your cooperation in keeping the servers running and the board from crashing.

A clarification on the image posting... it is the width we are concerned about. The length can be whatever.

The example above is to only show what 500 pixels wide looks like.

Hope this clarifies for you.

That may be true, Martha but everybody I was with last night and the night before loved them.
We've got some local guys that perform later era Beatles and tour all over the country...mostly the southeast and northwest though. They do stuff the Beatles never did live. It's stunning stuff to watch even if you're only a lukewarm fan.
This is the 40th anniversary of the Abbey Road album. They performed that on the front end of their concert. I've seen them do Magical Mystery Tour and St Pepper start to finish too.
Get Bama to take you to to see them... in Huntsville.
