Everyone’s got an opinion but it’s difficult for me to believe that BP does not want this spill contained and fixed ASAP. It’s costing them big time in cleanup, environmental damage, lawsuits and is a total PR disaster. You're making a very dangerous assumption. The assumption that they will be held financially liable is, at this stage, in question. So it may not cost them more than what would be construed as "cost of doing business". And as far as PR disasters, we are so addicted completely and solely, to petroleum, that NOTHING will stop our use of the stuff as long as there is no viable alternative. Our car consumers can't even find viable small diesel alternatives outside VW and Mercedes, which would at least open the door to those who wish to make their own biodiesel, a simple matter for any person with an hour (or two)to spare every week. I honestly don't think BP is all that concerned, not at this point. They're still thinking that they can wriggle out of this somehow, and that's also the consensus at the other two involved companies. They're going to play musical chairs till the music stops.

CBS deserves an Emmy for this report. It pretty much lays everything out, it's almost like a Christmas present. They actually did an outstanding job.

I thought so, too.
It was chilling to listen to him talk about watching the lifeboats leave without him. BP will long rue that man. His story is damning.

Yes, I saw the 60 Minutes report with a gay friend of mine. Our tongues were wagging just watching Mike Williams for two segments! ...and the report was terrific too! Very in depth, very well illustrated/animated and the report seemed to cover every aspect of the accident and what went wrong. Did I mention how awesome Mike Williams was? Oh I did - sorry, don't wanna repeat myself.

If this testimony doesn't show criminal negligence, I don't know what does. And it's not only criminal, it was done with tacit approval all the way to the top level. I want the CEO's of BP, Halliburton and Transocean in jail cells and I want bail denied because I consider their extreme wealth to constitute a flight risk. Maybe if they get to rot in a jail cell they will start pulling out all the stops to fix this.

Not one head has rolled. Here we are, Obama had his s*** fit, yelling at BP, ummmm let's see, the Congress yelled at Blankfein, the Tea Party wants to destroy the entire government, or at least drown it in the bathtub and yet NOT ONE HEAD HAS ROLLED. No one has been slapped in jail, no one has been indicted, no one has paid a price. Nothing. It's all a big phony show, a Jerry Springer scream-fest. Or...as ROSS DOUTHAT says, it's all SOUND AND FURY

All this sturm und drang has finally reminded me of something. In "Robocop", Officer Murphy goes to arrest OCP CEO Dick Jones for his part in the criminal underworld and suddenly runs up against a hidden, classified directive, a back door.
Directive #4 says that he is not to arrest ANY member of OCP management or board of directors!
And that's precisely what will happen the moment any individual or group attempts to dispense any real justice against ANY corporation in this day and age.
It's all show, it's all fake, it's all theater. No one, NO ONE, is going to get punished, not from BP, Transocean, Halliburton, Goldman-Sachs...
No one. Directive 4 is firmly in place.
