I believe Candidate Romney now has a campaign strategy that is firmly resolved to be unresponsive to anything, rather than risk a political condition known as a "gaffe stampede". Candidate Romney apparently is aware of the First Rule of Holes.

Candidate Romney's technique, sometimes described as "avoidance is the next best thing to not being there", is to clam up.
From the Obama campaign we can expect a continuous spate of vigorous clam digging, hopefully followed by many a festive clam bake.

It is rather amusing to watch the Romney campaign implode-and with very little help from the Democrats! source

Oh, Ma_R! We can always count on you to shine the spotlight on NonCon GOPROT. (Though your efforts may be wasted here, as we are on to the sneaky and perverse little tricks your people use try to confuse the gullible.) (OMG! YOU don't believe that scurrilous nonsense, do you?)

Having watched the whole episode, what he said was exactly what he meant. The man is incapable of believing that people can succeed without government help and that there are smarter people out in the private sector than he is. This was not taken out of context, as a matter of fact it was plagerized from that famous indian squaw running for senate from Massachusetts. He is hopelessly socialistic in his belief in big government.

Apparently, yes. Some people are capable of deceiving themselves into believing almost anything, particularly if they are predisposed to believe it.

As a guy who acuually admires free enterprise, I understand how the haters out there would find some sort of twisted connections between lonas and federal support. Are you saying that these businesses couldn't have gotten private financing? That banks or VC wouldn't have given them the money? That the products these companies supply to defense or intel or even payroll aren't able to be sold without government support, or that these companies would go under if they hadn't, you know, invented what they are selling? Government is important, but most successful companies would prosper without the government, and most actually do. I watched the whole thing, there was nothing taken out of context and nothing misinpertreted. Obama said what he believed and believed every letter of what he uttered. What else would you expect from a person whose job it was to shake down local government and businesses for money?

[quote=NW Ponderer]As a guy who acuually admires free enterprise... As a guy who has actually been engaged in free enterprise for 37 years as a business owner... This thread has jumped the track twice - once to completely change the topic from Romney being afraid to talk to reporters... ...twice to get on the idea that Obama thinks that people are entirely dependent on the gummit to build businesses (what he was actually saying is that no one can claim to have done anything entirely "on their own", which is true on so many levels that it boggles the mind, and that the things that society provides greatly facilitate that).

Apparently Candidate Mitt never got any help in building Bain Capital- but according to Harry Reid, he dint pay no taxes, neither! Did Romney pay taxes for 10 years? "Kiss my ass", sez Mitt, "I ain't showing YOU my tax returns!" "Vote fer me an' I'll show you how to stiff the US of A!"

8.2% unemployment.U6 at 15%. Downward mobility. I'd rather have my ass kissed than kicked. Since, as every True American knows, government cannot create a single job, the job of the president is to remove all of the things that government has created to impede the Job-Creators: taxes on wealth; taxes on capital gains; taxes on property; and all regulations that hinder Job-Creators from spending their wealth as they see fit or regulations that stop them from participating in the Market on their own terms. This president has failed utterly in these areas and yet tries to pawn off cosmetic alterations and downright attacks on True Americans as significant change for the better. Who cares if taxes on Job-Creators are the lowest they've been in over 50 years? They are obviously (8.2 % unemployment) far too high. Complete elimination of these job-killing, punitive taxes - that are nothing else but direct theft - must be the goal. Who cares if more areas are opened to the drilling of petroleum products than ever before? Even if that is the case, there is hardly enough drilling going on. One can drive nearly any coastline in the country or sail through nearly any of its seaways and nary an oil rig see. Drill Now. Drill Deep. Drill Everywhere. Who cares if the health care act was written by Romney and the Heritage Foundation? It is a law that is designed to impede private capital from earning as much profit as possible on their investment. If that isn't a abomination, a perversion of the Free Market, than nothing is. Who cares if more people are now allowed to live the lives of their choosing without government interference? Any expansion of the punitive regulations that prohibit companies from hiring, compensating and promoting people the way they see fit must be fought tooth and nail. And that is on top of the existential fact that this "freedom" and "equality" they are talking about are Abominations in the Eyes of the Almighty and should never gain acceptance in Our Country.

It's funny because the Mormons, in between sips of their non-caffeinated beverages, make a big song-and-dance about not swearing. No swearing, no liquor, no caffeine? There are a number of things about their way of life I admire! Now if it just weren't for the damned [oops!] superstition.... Their history of barbarity toward women, races, and financial matters also give one pause...too much like the Mafia....

no caffeine? heresy. t'ain't nothin' wrong with a strong cup of coffee/espresso etc. after all, if the all mighty hadn't meant of us to drink the black brew, she'd likely never led those ethiopian herders to the bean in the first place.

The man is incapable of believing that people can succeed without government help so here is the salient relative point "The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together" This was not taken out of context yes the particular quote is but if you want more which only corroborates and reinforces the same sentiments but no where did i find anything which resembled the nonsense you think you have found (the reality is, one of the right wing talk show nuts provided you with the line ... so i guess one could say in the case of your quote ... you didn't do it on your own ... you had help)

Isn't this the point in time after the flip-flopper thing in 2004, and the idiocy that went with that? It seems Romney is in danger zone because any statement such as kiss whatever, will leave too little time to walk it back, considering all the other problems he has, like the tax returns... the leaking of intelligence meetings with other nations' intel chiefs... deductions for the dressage horse, totaling about $70,000... The Brits weren't ready for the Olympics... The press catching the insult to the Palestinians, and Romney forgetting that he'd said it, because such a statement could be embarrassing... The kerfuffle at the Polish tomb of the unknown soldier, with the body part kissing statement, resulting from an exchange about gaffes... And example from Jon Stewart's site linked above: On Sunday, Mitt Romney boldly declared that Israel’s economic superiority over the Palestinians was due to its culture. On Tuesday morning, he dismissed any notion that he had even discussed Palestinian culture. On Tuesday night, Romney reversed himself yet again, in an op-ed entitled “Culture Does Matter.” The man is a walking, breathing, non-stop gaffe machine. As for job creation and lower taxes on the rich, we've done this for more than a decade while the economy has been tanking under the weight of bad Federal Reserve policy and unemployment continues to rise. Doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result is a sign of insanity. In other words, what we've done with all these tax cuts for the fabulously wealthy isn't working. It's time to change policy, start building infrastructure, put people to work that don't do well in the service industry (or are unsuited to the political industry), and start the able bodied building roads and repairing bridges again. Think of it as full employment for the gaffe-plagued. Quod Erat Demonstrandum.
