I voted no....
but I am able to live in a "safe" area
and I recognize that others will have different circumstances.

Understood. I tried to frame the question to not be judgmental, just to see what the prevailing psychology might be.

A curious thing, I had a dream last night where I shot a guy in self-defense with a shotgun (I thought of doing this poll more than a week ago, however). I have never had such a dream like that, or indulged in any sort of a similar fantasy. Go figure. It was a nearly completely emotionless experience, no fear, no revulsion. I didn't want to shoot though, and waited until I was shot at, even though I knew it was going to happen and was in a great ambush position.

Had another dream a few weeks ago that would normally be in the nightmare category, you know, where you fall off a cliff and wake up just before hitting the bottom (you can die that way I've heard). Drove off a cliff probably 1000' high, calmly opened the car door and pushed myself away, rotated for a proper diving into deep water just like I'd done it a hundred times before, went in about fifteen feet and swam to the surface, wondering in my dream why I wasn't scared.

I voted no for the simple reason that it wouldn't make me feel safer.

and that is the correct vote .... for you, and for me. But I can imagine that there would be circumstances where having a gun WOULD make me feel safer

I suspect that this is a good example of how the brainwashing and degenerate "entertainment" so prevalent in the United States gets into the brain and infects consciousness.

People should be much more careful than they generally are about what they permit the Mind Manipulators to put into their brains.

I'm your "don't know" vote. The reason? Our community does have some gang activity. There are days I feel very removed from it and days it's "in your face". So I guess I would have to say my actual response would depend on the moment. We don't own a gun, and aren't contemplating a purchase. But if I won the lottery? Maybe I would.

You are so right noomie. It's off to the sensory deprivation tank for me until I'm cured.

I'd have to say, it took the brainwashing machine a good many decades before it was finally able to get me to shoot someone in a dream, but it got 'er done!

Good point. Fortunately, there is the Ignore this poster feature on this board.

I voted no because I've never needed a gun and never foresee a need for one. Although lately I've been thinking about getting a little plinker with a scope for shooting squirrels, they're beginning to be a nuisance and I've got a hankerin' for squirrel gravy.
