Im not that obtuse about a "prayer breakfast" Iss. I just found the Doctors opinions to be funny and ironic and confirmation that you can be brilliant in some areas of life and less so in others.
Sorry if your post did not receive the proper respect and reverence, as opposed to amusement.
I guess that happens when you put it out there. It's likely that, in time, you too will get over it. Allah willing.

So, you would not be too upset if the less financially fortunate were to get money contributed to their accounts by others -- even though the suggestion was made by an apparent Christian who may not be a lefty? coffee

My apologies Iss,
I never answered your last question directed to me regarding monies set aside for HSA accounts set up for poor folks.
I'm not to keen setting up a bunch of accounts to help pay for a private health delivery system whose costs have far outpaced other business sectors.
It's like giving a poor guy a bucket to bail out a leaky boat he's caught in. I would rather figure out why the boat builders keep selling leaky boats.

If I was a smarter man I would find some ol timey biblical reference to buckets, boats or poor people here. I find it helps in supporting my political or ideological biases and people will think my opinions have more weight of argument.

Giving enough time I could have started with a definition from Websters on tithing.

Does it make you angry to think of "poor folks" having the freedom to and dignity of handling their own health costs with monies drawn from an account opened for them on the very day of their birth?
Yours,
Issodhos

I wonder if the good doctor knows if god meant gross or net? Since the Doctor seems to be talking flat tax I'm guessing God would rule gross. Apparently God doesn't like deductions for any one.

The tithing is not an absolute. Everyone gives what he/she feels is right. That some churches make it a rule is their bad. Some churches seem to require more and more donations. And those are usually the ones where I see the evangelist in several mansions, owning several fancy cars and even a private jet or two.

Why? Jesus is not about earthly things, neither is God.

I asked my Protestant minister MIL where god is quoted to say we should kick in 10%. Although there was a degree of uncertainty, It was thought that it was in the last book of the old testament. The book of methuselah or something.
I'll come clean and go on record that I have only an indirect relationship with organized religion and have no authority in biblical references.
Does make a nice garnish to a political/philosophical argument though.

I'll ask my Lutheran pastor what she thinks about this, and get back to you.

I watched all of Dr. Carson's presentation and don't believe I heard him say that it would be the government that would contribute to the HSA's at the birth of each citizen. Did I miss that?
