Texas Teacher Dons Same Yearbook Outfit for 40 Years
Katie Kindelan
ABC News
July 2, 2013

Dale Irby of Garland, Texas, did not mean to start a 40-year tradition when he wore a coffee-colored wool sweater vest over a polyester shirt for a yearbook photo in 1973.

The first-year teacher, now 63, simply pulled the in-fashion-at-the-time clothing from his closet on picture day. Then the next year, his second as a teacher in the Dallas Independent School District, he did it again, by chance.

He's dead, Jim. You take his tricorder. I'll grab his wallet.

Looking over those pictures is strangely facinating... you see different photographer styles, posing choices, lighting, etc.

The clothes, the place, the role... they all remain unchanged. But I cannot help but think of how the student experience of this single man may have changed over time ... as students have changed and as the teacher himself has changed through the years.
