The Heartland Institute ("Milton Friedman was a fan!") released a post on its Facebook page yesterday featuring the image and words of comedy legend George Carlin.
Only one problem though, they did a little creative editing, thinking no one would catch it.

The "error" caught the attention of a few folks, like his daughter Kelly Carlin, for example, who is furious.

Quote:
"Hey douchebags- why don't you post the full piece. Editing it to suit your needs is really cowardly."

Normally I am not surprised when the progeny of a famous bard, poet or wordsmith chooses to remain above the fray.
Dodging shrapnel from minor skirmishes is tiring and futile.

But when a major water carrier for the right wing power elite makes a move of this nature, it can't be tolerated.
Herds tend to follow their leader, and when the leader beckons them to the watering hole the herd generally tends to trust that the leader hasn't taken a dump in the water.

If they find out he has, the balance of power in the herd tends to change quite drastically, often with disastrous results for the leader.

Here's coverage from Crooks and Liars, with the video clip in question:

Heartland Institute Edits George Carlin's Words For Cheap Facebook Hits

Here's a helpful hint from Heloise!
REVISIONISM only works when your target consists of:

Quote:
"Obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork but just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, reduced benefits, the end of overtime and the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it."

Anyone smarter than that, smarter than the template Heartland Institute helped create, will instantly recognize that you have done a not so subtle switcheroo.
Those people get pissed off, they tell all their friends, who tell all THEIR friends, and then suddenly you have a shitstorm spiraling out of control and then before you know it the story has started to gain traction in mainstream media and you have your Heartland Institute PR people on speed dial and you're screaming at them to engage the weapons grade apologetics machine and turn on the double down defense mechanism.

Next thing you know your PR shill is on Fox News making an even bigger fool out of your group and the rest of America starts to catch the lie you peddled.

I have had the distinct honor and privilege of knowing Kelly, her Mom and Dad personally.

As she is the keeper of "the Carlin flame", I assure you she won't let this go without a fight, seeing as how this particular bit of satire seems to have become something of a liberal rubric for the ongoing decay of The American Dream, something Carlin finally referred to as "a dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it."

Never ever EVER f**k with the words of George Carlin...EVER.
Just don't do it. tonbricks

Right Wing Revisionism...

I saw their revisionism of recent events just a few weeks ago. Amazing.

In another discussion, the Wingnuts tried to claim that the repeal of Glass-Steagall was because of Clinton (true) and the Democratic Congress (false). The 106th Congress was Republican controlled.

We need to be diligent and point out the Winger's revisionism whenever we encounter it.

Thanks for this thread, Jeff. smile

I think it would be quicker to self identify as a Libtard and agree with Winger revisionism, which will cause them to switch back like lightning.

Or, as a Czechoslavakian acquaintance of mine from long ago would have said, "Reworse psychology".
