What do we Agree upon
Not much

And worse.
If you look at the public opinion graphs
There is a very clear trend against so called liberal positions

IMO the only way for democrats to be competitive in lots of circumstances will be to acknowledge the reality of public opinion. You or I may think the view is flawed. But ejections are win or lost based upon speaking to the concerns of voters.

If people want to engage in trying to shift public perception. They surely need a better plan to do so. But defending boiler plate liberal positions is going to become I increasingly problematic. And the result will help insure that more radical right wing candidates are elected.

What T-Baggers and Dems agree upon:
  • Doing the 'Snoopy Dance' that Eric Cantor lost his primary re-election.

I do not agree with everyone
I think global warming is happening and is caused by humans
I think that we need strong regulation to protect against environmental degradation
I think that we need to help the poor
I would support As national Heath service
I support progressive taxation and think the rich evade taxes
I am for much stronger national gun control
I want a strict line between religion and government
I do not think money is free speech or that corporations are people
I believe in Keynesian economics

I think it is quite unfortunate that right wing propagandists have been so effective in shifting the balance of public opinion

Otoh I think that democrats have to recognize this has happened in order to compete in elections. And I look for what conservatives think that can be valid criticisms. Which is hard to do given the colossal stupidity expressed by the most vocal conservative voices.

Ardy, never underestimate a right-winger's capacity for duplicity, treason or sedition, and who worship at the shrine of Ayn Rand specializing in narcissistic greed and arrogance.

I do not believe, Ardy, that the graphs demonstrate your point. Moreover, on the way home today the leader of the Pew survey reached the opposite conclusion from the data. He noted that those identifying as Republicans are twice as likely to believe their views as Democrats (rejecting any contrary positions), but that those elements made up less than 40% of the survey. Majorities do not follow the extremes of either party, and are trending on almost all of the questions in a generally more liberal view - he cited immigration, homosexuality, and militarization in particular, but noted that most described their views as "moderate." He also noted that the most extreme views are reflected in where they live (or want to live), who they associate with, and that they are most likely to get their information "only from sources with which they already agree."

The. Issues that you cited are indeed as you say and what are trending toward agreement
But there are about 8 other questions where the trend lines are toward conservative

Probably you are right
But just in case let's look and see

Go look at the first question
Then get back to me on how you see the results as trending more liberal
I could give the details
But you and Phil should document the substance if your disagreement IMO
Unless you want me to do it
Which if course I will do in excruciating detail if requested

Ardy
