Woman, 25, faces life in prison for stopping on highway to rescue ducklings and causing crash that killed a father and his daughter
Daily Mail Reporter
The Daily Mail
June 20, 2014

Quote:
A woman who parked her car on a highway to rescue ducklings has been found guilty of causing the deaths of a motorcyclist and his daughter who slammed into her vehicle.

Emma Czornobaj was convicted by a jury on Friday on two counts of criminal negligence causing death, a charge that carries a maximum life sentence, and two counts of dangerous driving causing death, which comes with a maximum of 14 years in jail.

The 25-year-old was charged in the deaths of Andre Roy, 50, and his daughter Jessie, 16.

She wiped away tears when the verdict was delivered to a packed courtroom in Montreal.

Some added detail

This happened in Canada

The driver stopped her car on a highway

Not on the shoulder

Left her door open

And did not put on the hazard flashers

A man and his daughter on motorcycle crashed and died

The driver could have done a plea

But refused to do any jail time

Apparently the jury felt her actions
Criminally negligent

Look, this woman did something totally thoughtless and stupid and as a result two people died. She needs to face consequences beyond just feeling bad. The chance that she will face any significant jail time is small, but that should be expected. Refusing a plea deal was also stupid.

I'd suggest 7 years. That was the difference between her age and the child she killed. If she demonstrates remorse, and not just self pity, she can be paroled.

As a side light

This article illustrates a common problem
The headline is clearly written to evoke interest.
While it is accurate. It is also misleading
The woman faces jail Time for reckless stopping that caused death

Would that it were only the case that headlines were creative
But as we move toward infotainment
The pressure is to actually present the information in a similar way as headlines.
Write it so it will generates reader excitement.

From there you move to the realm of creatively misrepresenting the truth to increase audience.

And from there. Total disregard of the facts

IMO Fox News is a leader in generating market share with tabloid reportage

I so totally agree! You have, in a few short lines, encapsulated the basic problem with MSM.
