Dozens fired after skipping work to participate in 'A Day Without Immigrants' protests

Sarah Whitten

February 20, 2017

Quote:
As numerous restaurant employees were given leave on Thursday to march in "A Day Without Immigrants" protests, others returned to their posts Friday to discover that they were out of a job.

Across the U.S. employers fired hundreds of protesters who skipped work to participate in rallies.

Actions have consequences, and for every action, there is a reaction. When people leave work, there may be consequences. When people fire workers, one has to assess motivation.

I suspect these employers did not consider the possible ramifications of their actions. They may be sued. They may have to defend their action in unemployment claim cases. They may face boycotts. They may have difficulty finding replacements. Good luck finding non-immigrant replacements!

The country seems to be split in half, so the number of people who boycott your business might just equal the number of people who seek you out for being anti-immigrant. We have an endless supply of aholes in this country.

CONservatives are too cheap and chintzy to spend money at all of those businesses who are losing business due to boycotts.

I don't think high-end establishments and larger businesses ever make political statements (with a few notable exceptions like chic-filet). The businesses that step in the dog poo and generate boycotts are mostly tiny family or individual-run businesses. I suspect Trump fans DO utilize their goods and services.

For example, a family run bakery that doesn't want to make gay wedding cakes.
