March is the third month of the year, has 31 days, and is named after Mars, the Roman god of war.
It was originally the first month of the year in the Roman calendar and named Martius.

Beware the Ides of March?

I'm afraid our Senate is far to conservative for this sort of shenanigans...

On March 20th at 6:28AM Eastern Time the Vernal Equinox will occur.
Wiccans, Pagans, and other polytheists celebrate this day as Ostara, the midpoint of Spring, which began at Imbolc on February 2 and will end May 1st at Beltane.

But...for all intents and purposes Spring Is Here!

Spring is Here, Life Is Skittles and Life Is Beer!

Skittles you say? The preferred colorful candy treat of thugs everywhere?
No indeed. Back when mid century modern furniture was new and shiny there was a game popular on college campuses called Skittles.
It went something like this....

Odd what people had to do to entertain themselves before staring at video screens became the norm.

Madness indeed.

I dont think the audience was not quite ready for that yet. It reminds me of a classic guitar performance in Back to the Future!

Im having lots of trouble inserting images and links, and is says html is disabled and using UBB. It there a way to toggle back to HTML, or is it determined by the thread or some setting on my puter?

Some of the UBB codes don't work here anymore either. You can no longer center an image or justify it to the right. But if you use the tool bar above the reply box you're more likely to get the desired results as far as images and videos go.

For youtube videos click the blue square(a video screen) and enter the URL of the video. The fourth from the left is for images and the second for links.

Thanks Greger,
I used to have no trouble with images, but most were jpg files. There seem to be many non-jpg images that appear on google image search, that are not acceptable to this software.

Thanx Greger,

I will have to learn fast, as I am impaired without the ability to express myself
with "appropriate"rolleyes images.

Today Sessions opened his press conference with: "It's good to be with you (curiously smiling)..." ROTFMOL I laffed out loud! I thought Sessions reminded me of some character, but couldn't quite place him!

I like to think of Foghorn Leghorn as a practical and pragmatic man, errr rooster. I prefer to think he is open to any scheme that gets him a leg up on whatever situation he's in and that he has no time for petty foibles like racism. He's on a mission, whatever that may be, and would bond with anyone regardless of race, creed or color.
He's a good ole boy but he's the kind of good ole boy who would rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints.

After all, he is a creation of the Tar Paper Shack boys in Burbank!
Talk about an oppressed bunch!
The early Warner Brothers cartoonists were percieved as second class citizens by Warner management and for the first four years much of their work was done in a row of tar paper shacks erected on the Warner lot. Accommodations were as sparse as the pay. The summer heat in Burbank cooked both the tar and cartoonists in equal measure!
It took a strike to force management to up the pay and working conditions.

GOOD MOURNING AMERICA!

I hope everyone is having an enjoyable and relaxing weekend, like most in America!
I find that British Political humor provides a bit of subtlety missing in American Humor. I am particularly fond of Dave Browns cartons, that have the recurring theme related to Trumps hair being Pootins pet ferret, though there is still debate over ferret vs. weasle. See what you think and select supporting cartoon images to make your case. Not sure if this will be accepted by the media tool so here is the H-url https://twitter.com/DaveBrownToons/media
Dave Brown cartoons
This one re Theresa Mays visit made me laugh out loud, enjoy!

Trump Theresa May, Rough Trade

I am still having trouble with several jpg images, though some seem to work just fine.

I try to scan the Daily Mail and The Independent, for an idea about how we are being viewed by outsiders, though with that traditional Special Relationship we always have had with the Brits.

When an image won't post sometimes it's because it is protected from copying in some way. The way around this is to save it to your computer then change the name and upload it to photobucket or whatever cloud based photo app you use, then copy the url of the image from there and link it here with the [img] code. It's a pain in the ass but it always works.

Three women go down to Mexico one night to celebrate college graduation.

They get drunk and wake up in jail, only to find that they are to be executed in the morning – though none of them can remember what they did the night before.

The first one, a redhead, is strapped in the electric chair and is asked if she has any last words. She says, “I just graduated from Trinity Bible College and believe in the almighty power of God to intervene on the behalf of the innocent.”

They throw the switch and nothing happens. The executioners all immediately fall to the floor on their knees, beg for forgiveness, and release her.

The second one, a brunette, is strapped in and gives her last words. “I just graduated from the Harvard School of Law and I believe in the power of justice to intervene on the part of the innocent.”

They throw the switch and again, nothing happens. Again they all immediately fall to their knees, beg for forgiveness and release her.

The last one, a blonde, is strapped in and says, “Well, I’m from the University of Texas and just graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and I’ll tell ya right now, ya’ll ain’t gonna electrocute nobody if you don’t plug this thing in.”

Roscoe licks and grooms the Lil Bun until his fur is soggy. Out in the yard Bun can outrun and outmaneuver Roscoe handily. Bunnies are fast. Roscoe is a chaser but not really a catcher, he got a serious whuppin' when he caught a chicken years ago and I don't think he's ever tried to catch anything since then...except the mailman.

Oh Oh,
Spicer's previous White House, assumed position, has been revealed. Prebiusly he was white, naturally, but also big and fuzzy with long ears. We all know how important appearance is to a narcissist presidunce, and this bodes ill for Spicer's tenure at the White House. I have made him a reservation in the Farewell to Douchebags Hall of Shame. See ya there soon Sean!

Well, well well...
The Alt-Right has organized a campaign to silence Snarky.
David's Snarky Politics Place
Fresh off a three day ban in which the Forces of Zuckerberg didn't even explain the reason, Snarky has now been handed a SEVEN DAY BAN.
Reason? He posted a Daily Kos article in which it was reported that antisemitic flyers were being passed around a college campus in Texas, and the administrative board of the college was doing relatively NOTHING.
That IS the entire reason for the seven day ban.
According to the BAN, he "posted that article, which does not meet FB community standards."
It's no wonder, Snarky has them scared. With 45 thousand unique persons liking this page, that's a formidable bludgeon.

We all know what this is, folks.
This is organized members of the Alt-Right who have decided to "report" anything Snarky posts as a violation, and given the capricious and random manner in which FB enforces stuff, and given the right slant of the medium, the method is HIGHLY EFFECTIVE if used well.

Thing is, that has a way of BACKFIRING, and the organized mob that is doing this is about to find out just how well it works.
You got two free hits, guys.
It will be our turn very soon. smile

Boy howdy, the system clock sure is screwed up. It says I posted at 2:52 PM on the post (which was 12:52 PM in my Pacific time zone) but it says I posted the same thing at 5:52 PM on the left hand edge.

It seems to be adding an extra 3 hours correction on the left hand edge.

Ever thought of just packing it in, going off the grid and getting away?
$780,000 asking price.
I bet they would take $600,000 or 650,000.
Live off grid in Wyoming, far above the madding crowd.

Rock Springs House in WY

VIDEO

NOTE: The batteries in that off grid system are NICKEL-IRON type, also known as EDISON batteries and they are good for eighty years or even longer.

About 200 miles, on foot, to Jenny Lake, one of my favorite places! Driving into the Tetons is shockingly beautiful and intoxicating. So much so that I got a speeding ticket, oblivious to the speed limit, as animals dont do well with high speed cars. The Cop understood my condition, but I still got the ticket. There has been a Lithium mineral deposit discovered recently near Rock Springs. So mining may be developing. May not be so off the grid! Still, having some Lithium around, can come in handy, for batteries, and when all that surrounding Teton gneiss triggers that damn earworm again! But otherwise it, as I have mentioned elsewhere, wouldnt it be gneiss. Loose associations, who has loose associations??

Tahahaht!

2.5 KWatt electrical system for Rock Springs Ranch. Mine is 5 KWatt and is almost ready to start up. I guess I better think of more ways to use electricity!

Pretty neat place, but I have a better view. On a clear day I can see San Clemente Island, Catalina Island, most of Camp Pendleton, Mount Baldy, Mount San Gorgornio, Mount San Jacinto, and Mount Palomar.

What about Russia?

Anybody do anything special for St Patrick's day? Green beer, green meat, or green mac, that sorta resembles what happens with too much green beer. Worse things can also happen with impaired judgement that can result in admissions to the psychiatry ER, even in Texas! I have been told that StPatty's is the about the worst shift for OD etc. ER staff are more forgiving on family holidays, Xmas, Thanksgiving, etc, but are not cut much Schlack on St Patty's.

Edison batteries are pretty cool. You can actually make your own because all the patents are expired. But you should read the patent because it is a lot trickier than throwing some iron and nickel plates in potassium hydroxide. They are too low in charge density to use them in anything portable but if you have a nice warm shed, they are great for solar.

DIY lead acid batteries can be much easier to make if you use solid plates, but you have to go through several charge & discharge cycles in both polarities to build up a spongy lead layer. Even then, they don't deliver the kind of currents a standard starter battery does, but they can last 20 years like Edison batteries.

Twenty years? TWENTY???
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....!!! LOL ROTFMOL LOL

I got some news for you.
Edison batteries have a normal durability span of at least 30 to FIFTY years but some of them have been known to last BEYOND EIGHTY years. Some of the original battery sets manufactured by Edison himself are still serviceable. He wasn't joking when he said that they would last a hundred years.

A globally reviled Nazi and a globally respected Democratic leader met in Washington yesterday.
Sadly for us, the respected Leader was the German, and the reviled Nazi was the American.

Yes, Edison batteries do not degrade much over time, except for water loss. You just have to go top them up with deionized water once a month. And that's exactly why nobody wants to manufacture them: You make one sale and never sell one to that customer again!

Manufacturers love regular filled-plate lead-acid starter batteries. Self-destruction is a sure thing, so plenty of repeat customers every few years even if they maintain there batteries perfectly. That's why I mentioned solid plate lead-acid batteries AKA deep-cycle. Same chemistry but built to last a very long time.

I actually have a book all about making them. I considered it but I don't want to do all that lead melting for health reasons. Buying thick sheet lead you can just cut up is not really cost competitive with buying used forklift deep cycle batteries. I figured I would need about $20,000 worth of batteries to do the same job as my $1800 grid-tie inverter. Being on the grid is worth quite a lot, in terms of PV power.

In a Washington Post article, some of the WH insiders that see other WH members as "worldly" and "polished" are dismissed as "Democrats":

What if?

Trump is impeached and convicted.

If he was convicted, he would no longer be President, Pence would be. He might sit in his White House office for a while, but the Secret Service, FBI, etc, would no longer treat him as anything but a trespasser. I guess his private security and some of his staff would support him but not any of the real power in DC.

That wouldn't surprise me. Things are not liable to get better for this administration. He just threw the entire Republican congress under the bus over the healthcare fiasco, first threatening them if they didn't vote for it then refusing to negotiate further and heading back to Florida for yet another vacation.
It's ironic that Trump had nothing to do with this bill which is entirely the work of Paul Ryan but he is the one Congress will toss under the bus when it fails. And fail it will whether it passes or not.
Being President is going to become less and less fun for Trump as his adoring crowds are replaced by angry protesters.

Of course he has nothing to say about these negotiations, does he? Congress still has to actually write the laws, last time I checked.

A rich man, a middle class man and a poor man sit in front of a plate with 20 cookies. The rich man quickly takes 19, pushes the plate to the middle class man and says: You better take your cookie or the poor man will steal it.

Sound familiar?

I was just in a WalMart, looking for garden hose washers. They got about 10 different brands and lengths of hose, and all sorts of garden hose accessories like Y valves, sprayers, nozzles, etc. No washers. Not even on the hoses!

I checked on walmart.com. They have no hose washers IN ANY STORE! (They will have somebody else sell them to you online.) So they are selling people products guaranteed not to work. American ingenuity on display.

I bet there is some manager somewhere wondering why their garden hose sales are so bad and they have so many returns.

WalMart is perfectly willing to sell you (via others) some hose washers online. Pretty cheap, too. I just think it is ironic they don't carry any in the stores, when they have so many garden hoses and so many hose accessories in the stores.

What I should have done, is to take one off one of the hose accessories and tried to buy it at the register. That would have been hilarious. I might just go do that for the lulz.
