Bill Nye: Global Warming Could Be Solved By Cows Genetically Engineered To Cut Less Farts [VIDEO]
Andrew Follett The Daily Caller March 29, 2017
Global warming could be solved by genetically engineering or breeding cows to fart less Bill ‘The Science Guy” Nye said in an interview Tuesday.
“Agriculture researchers are going to produce or breed farm animals that produce less methane by changing the bacteria that are in their stomachs,” Nye said on BigThink. “To get all the way down to a plant based diet might be tricky for a lot of people. However, it seems like a good idea.”

I think Mother Nature can take care of the cow fart issue, we just need to fix our end; reducing the added stress of industrialization, fossil fuel use, polluting and destroying the environment. Also develop efficient and effective space flight; spreading out to some of the other planets, moons and larger asteroids, and in the not to distant future the stars.

of course we could just stop eating beef or drinking cow milk ...
They belch and fart so much because people keep fattening them with corn. If you keep them grass-fed they are much less gassy. And I'm sure they like green pastures a lot better than crowded feed lots standing in a foot of their own poop.

The cow fart people aren't taking the methane bubble issue under all the permafrost seriously. They should fly over some of the Arctic and Russian tundra, and over some of the Arctic ocean areas, so they can actually SEE the ocean and land BURPS happening in REAL TIME. Two hundred acres of tundra belches equals an amount of methane equivalent to ten times the number of cows on the entire planet.
Giant CHUNKS of clathrate are flying up from the ocean floor. My God, just one twenty pound chunk of clathrate will sublimate into what...how many hundreds or thousands of cubic feet of gas?
The men the American public admire most extravagantly are the most daring liars; the men they detest most violently are those who try to tell them the truth. - H. L. Mencken
It looks like methane clathrate is 136:24 water to methane ratio. Water's molecular weight is 18 and methane's is 16 so with that ratio, methane clathrate is only about 15 percent methane by molecules or 13.3% by weight. So say:
485 cubic feet * 0.133 = 64.5 cubic feet
“Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.”
For the first 2-3 years of their lives cows eat grass and hay almost exclusively. They're only fed corn for a few weeks. Also...most of the land used to graze cattle really isn't much good for growing anything else. If it were they'd be growing crops on it that paid a lot more per acre than cattle.

I guess the biggest producer of bovine methane is dairy cows and all their manure. In California the state wants all dairy farmers to get their manure into digesters to capture the methane. Then it can be used for fuel locally or piped off to gas companies. Methane is essentially the same as Natural Gas.
