It's all really 2-D. We all live in Flatland and we are dreaming of a third dimension.

Looks like Hurricane Harvey is about to rip Texas a new ahole. 133 MPH sustained winds and it's pretty damn big. It is 10 miles offshore right now. In about an hour it will come ashore in a pretty unpopulated area east of Corpus Christi, but they are predicting in will loop around back out to sea and get charged up again for a run at Houston.

To my Texas friends, stay safe. Harvey looks very devastating. I hope the predictions are overblown.

Vegas oddsmakers, if Rupert Murdoch kicks the bucket before Christmas, what are the odds that Sinclair Broadcast Group buys Fox News Channel (News Corporation) before the 2018 elections?

OK--that was both good--and very bad....

Trump pardoned Joe Arpaio, so he never has to pay for his many crimes personally. His decisions as sheriff may have injured thousands of people and even killed some, but all the many lawsuits were against the county. They paid out millions of dollars to his victims, but he never had to pay a cent or serve a day in jail.

What about the families of people his decisions killed? I wonder if just one of them will take some of their lawsuit money and take out a hit on him. I sure wouldn't want to be Joe Arpaio these days. I can see it coming from a mile away.

Wikipedia has a very nice article on him and all of his MANY crimes. I can see why Trump would admire him after reading it! Among many other things, his department practically made child rape legal in his county.

Trump pardoned Arpaio to send a signal that he can pardon anyone who stays loyal to him... hint, hint, Manafort, Flynn, Jared... the 25th amendment looms large... it is the quickest way to remove Trump from office before he can pardon his way out of the Russia scandal, and serves the secondary purpose of giving him a defense (diminished capacity) in his subsequent trials.

Yes, I believe it is really coming to this. We all knew Trump was unsuited (incompetent and uninterested) to be President, but Republican leaders felt he could be corralled once in office to pursue their agenda (the infamous "pivot"). They believed that the executive branch could be run without an effective President - they did it with Reagan and Bush - but they didn't count on his towering ego and gross ignorance of basics. Mental illness has not been a roadblock before (Wilson, Reagan, Nixon)... but Trump is just too far gone to hide it.

I actually wonder if there will be anything left of Houston.
This hurricane is doing to Houston Metro what an 8.5 quake would do to Los Angeles.
