We have now been treated to unending reports on the Puero Rico disaster, day in and day out. This morning, however, it got interesting. Seems that there are over 9200 shipping containers full of supplies. The man storing these say that he is really running out of room and can't handle many more. Seems that the Trump administration did a great job sending all the 'help' - just one problem, they didn't send any fuel to power the stuff that would deliver said supplies. When the head of FEMA was interview he said everything was under control and they were working very hard to fix everything. That may be true but he forgot to send fuel and that has been a request from the start. There is also the hospital ship - never left port. Then there was the getting exception so that they could use existing shipping for supply - Trump just 'allowed' it although he made it plain he didn't want to. Remember, too, NOBODY is actually in charge of FEMA as its one of them appointments Trump hasn't done.

Puerto Rico is also in serious financial straights. They made a number of bond issues, etc. that were poorly designed and wasted. They did this because they could. We are responsible for Puerto Rico and we are supposed to support and guide. What we did is allow them to do any damned thing they wanted, threw reason out the window, etc. Now we deplore what happened and have still not taken care of a problem that should never have happened had we been doing our job. I am only mentioning this because Trump apparently decided to ignore Puerto Rico because of this financial thing. It seemed as if he only acted when pressure was generated.

This morning I also watched a press conference with the Democratic leadership. It was all about Puerto Rico. However, not once did they mention the above stuff. They continue to not go after the Republicans in any meaningful way, other than to whine a lot and ask for more money. Given the delicacy of the Democrats I would not be surprised to hear that the democrat in the senate race in Alabama apologize for running for fear of offending the Republicans. I know, this is a bit unreasonable. I just want to see them actually fight back with a bit of vigor but they just don't seem to have the backbone to do that.

Trump again PROVES he doesn't give two sh!ts about Puerto Rico, or brown people who speak Spanish in general, and he also has proven that he doesn't think of them as Americans either.

Quote:
"I hate to tell you, Puerto Rico — you've thrown our budget a little out of whack because we've spent a lot of money on Puerto Rico."
“If you looked — every death is a horror, but if you look at a real catastrophe like Katrina, and you look at the tremendous hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people that died, and you look at what happened here with really a storm that was just totally overbearing, nobody has seen anything like this.
What is your death count as of this morning, 17?”

Trump: Puerto Rico Didn’t Suffer a ‘Real Catastrophe’ Like Katrina

Trump tosses paper towels into crowd at Puerto Rican church.

I wonder if he tells them to "get busy and mop it up!"?

Oh, this guy. So presidential.

I guess we're forced to wait till cholera, Zika and Dengue fever reach epidemic proportions before Herr Trump notices that the island has truly suffered.
Then we can hang fifty-thousand deaths and a hundred thousand cases of infant mental retardation around his neck in 2018.

I agree, more should be done to help Puerto Rico.
