I have been watching the tv news with interest. The Republicans passed a new budget which has, oddly, been kinda ignored by the tv news and pundits alike. Seems like they are going to, for instance, cut almost a half a trillion out of medicare and another out of medicaid. Then there are also huge cuts in food stamps. It just goes on and on. I have included a few sites for perusal. If you go through them you will note that even the press (non-tv) has hidden most of this in a pile of verbiage. (basing this on the simple fact that I had to read a LOT of stuff to find the links below that even mentioned this stuff).

I should add that if it all comes due, and Paul Ryan has been saying that its all going into place quickly. This, of course, means that they will be making major cuts to medicare and medicade and food stamps (along with a bunch of other stuff). I wonder how the Republican 'base' is going to react when they find out that theirs have taken away their healthcare AND food stamps!

Nobody (even Republicans in Congress) is taking that budget seriously. It really has little effect. The bills that do are the allocation of funds, and those come later. The budget bill was just passed so they can later use reconciliation to pass a tax bill with >50% votes.

The rules of the Senate say you need 60% for any normal bill. When they do the tax bill and later allocate more money for MediCare, etc. they can be heroes for the retirees and just run up a huge deficit.

First - its ALL about taxes, no mention of the budget. Its interesting. They needed a budget before they could pass their tax thing and, now, it seems that the budget means absolutely nothing. I think we may get a bit of education on that one in the fullness of time. Otherwise, given some of the budget battles we have seen, those would have been for absolutely nothing too. We live in very strange times?

Here are what some are saying about the budget (none say it means nothing):
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/get-...m=.e35d2aef2b2c
http://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/med...-cuts-in-budget
https://www.aarp.org/politics-society/advocacy/health-medicare/

As far as I can tell this stuff is in place and that stuff is necessary for the Republicans to pass their tax stuff and give the 1% their trillion dollar tax break. Once that gets fixed the budget is, for all practical purposes written in stone and about a trillion is gone so that they (Republicans) can claim fiscal responsibility for their tax thing. I don't seem this being fixed real soon.

Of course the problem with bills passed along Party lines is they get undone as soon as the Party loses control. Pass a bill with bipartisan support and it is much more likely to last.
