Funny thing. Getting rid of the mortgage interest deduction and almost doubling the standard deduction is great for us: We paid off our mortgage with a small inheritance, so we would not be itemizing for the first time in decades. We have no kids, so the per-kid deduction they are getting rid of has no effect on us. No student loan (or any other loan) interest. No other big deductions to lose.

We make out like bandits, but I still think it hurts the country. The abrupt changes will make some economic activities unfeasible, so it will be very disruptive. Probably end up raising the deficit and inflation, and end up driving us into recession. The exact opposite of what Yellen has been trying to do.

There are ways to fix the tax code that would actually do three main things: increase wages/create jobs, reduce the debt, stimulate the economy - oh, and reduce income disparity to boot. But the goop has no interest in doing those things.

Interesting how their policies drive us to just the kind of boom/bust economic swings that put Democrats in charge. But if that homeostatic effect was not there we would probably just have one political party!
