I am still trying to process it all.
I really liked Phil, nay...loved the guy but I never did get the chance to meet him in person.
We were going to take him and his partner to dinner about six months ago but he begged off because he said he wasn't feeling real good that night.
But I thoroughly enjoyed his wit and personality, and he was the stabilizing influence at the Rant for many years.
Losing Phil is just the latest in a string of tragic losses which have affected this forum in the last few years. Phil was one of the core figures who knew the ins and outs of how the system ran, so he knew how to fix forum issues as well as how to lead people.

The Philfest was low key...many of his close friends, none of whom I knew.
But I did get to pay my respects to Ron his husband and see the many delightful photos, most of which Phil shared here with us at the Rant.

So I'm sure you heard about the special election in Virginia where a Democrat won by one vote - except a judge went home and thought about one particular ballot that had the Republican name circled and a line under the Dems name and they checked the Records of this person's voting record and saw that this person always voted for a Republican - so the results are now a tie again and the two race will be decided by a lottery.

Originally that ballot was discarded as over voting.

I thought no one knew how you voted. Hmm

Total BS: We have secret ballots in this country. They never record how you voted and your name is not on the ballot once it goes into the ballot box. If somebody official made this statement, then they are trying to diddle to vote and are doing a provably fraudulent job of it.

I bet this ballot gets tossed. Back in Florida Gore vrs Bush they decided election officials shouldn't try to guess a voter's intent. I'm sure this is not the only spoiled ballot. There are probably dozens or hundreds more.

That's what I thought. Hmm

A One-Vote Victory in Virginia Lasts One Day as Judges Declare a Tie

The judges meeting in Newport News, Va., agreed to a Republican request to count a problematic ballot discarded the day before, said Philip L. Hatchett, a lawyer for David Yancey, the Republican incumbent who seemed to have lost his seat to Shelly Simonds, a Democrat. A victory by Ms. Simonds, a school board member in Newport News, would evenly split the Virginia House 50-50 and end 17 years of Republican majorities.

NY Times

It was reported on KOMO AM news on the drive home this afternoon that the judges looked at the voting history of this person's ballot. KOMO is a Sinclair Broadcasting ABC affiliate.

I'm not sure if a local reporter reported the story, or if it was a network reporter. Hmm

EDIT: The NYT has the actual ballot. I'm guessing that because the person voted all Republican, they meant to vote for a Republican in that box - is the thinking. But, still, no one can be certain.

Another recount is a possibility. The reasoning of the three judge panel is pretty sketchy, frankly, but it is the process in Virginia. It could still be alright if the Dem wins the coin toss... Then they'll think of something else. Power does not surrender itself willingly. "...judges are elected by a majority vote of the Virginia General Assembly (the combined house of delegates and senate). Supreme court justices serve for twelve years while appeals and circuit judges serve for eight years." Election of judges in Virginia. Republican have controlled the election of judges there for 17 years. Think there might be some bias on the bench? It worked for the Supreme Court...

Wanna bet if the Republican loses the coin toss, they "find" a few more ballots stuck behind the ballot scanners?

I so agree! smile

Modern Republicans lie, cheat, and steal their way to victory now-a-days. Hmm

Twas the night before Christmas, when through the White House
Not a Kushner was resting, not even his spouse;
The documents were hung by the shredder with care,
In fears that Bob Mueller soon would be there;

The staffers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of subpoenas danced in their heads;
And Melania in her babushka, and Trump in his cap,
Flew to Mar-a-Lago for a long winter’s nap,

When on the TV there remained such a matter,
There was Brennan, Podesta and man named Jim Clapper.
With bribes fresh in hand, they flew like the flash,
The greedy corporations did suck up the cash.

The Congress rejoiced the records will show
Feigned promises of riches to the peasants below,
When, what to amazement FoxNews should appear,
Took aim at Bob Mueller, with permission to smear,

With disinfo flying, so rapid and thick,
I knew in a moment it must be Bolshevik.
More rapid than vultures his hackers they came,
And they posted and trolled, as they sought to defame;

“Now, Fancy! now, Cozy! now, Seaduke and BlackEnergy!
On, Havex! on Sandworm! on, Skipper and CrouchingYeti!
To the DNC server! Past the paper’s firewall!
Now exfiltrate, exfiltrate, exfiltrate all!”

Then the Kremlin called Julian, their reliable guy,
To leak to the world, the docs that they plied,
And the Stone who was named Roger bragged on it too,
With the dirty tricks methods that Vladi knew.

And they carried on lying that there was never the proof,
They fogged and distracted and acted aloof.
But their plan would unravel, spin wild to the ground,
And the FBI went digging and looking all around.
