Because of my wish that all patients in the US have access to medical marijuana if it can help them. Simply by passing such a bill declaring that there are legitimate medical uses, (which has the advantage of being true), it would force the DEA to reclassify it. Then it would be available in all 50 states and US territories with any doctor's prescription.
It would also make it possible for research projects to work with it. They have been caught in a brutal Catch-22: They can't research it because it is a Class 1 drug, and it is a Class 1 drug because there is no research in the US. It really looks like it might be effective in treating and preventing Alzheimer's Disease, so being against such research is insane.
Just by passing this simple bill that does nothing but insist on the truth, and that 64% of the voters approve, we take a huge pressure off marijuana enforcement.
