I recently took the Ancestry DNA test, butt I already know much of my family migration history. I have roots reaching all over Europe and the UK. I look forward to getting more specific.

Donald Trump, his supporters and subordinates, are virulently anti-immigrant. Some, including Trump, are openly racists, but others seem to have less obvious biases, yet pursue no less virulent practices (John Kelly and Thomas Homan, in particular). What they all, deliberately or ignorantly, have in common is ignoring the reality of their immigrant roots.

Trump, famously, carries that name because his grandfather changed it after immigrating in 1885. How ‘chain migration’ brought us the Trump White House - Philip Bump, WaPo.
Quote:
A number of prominent members of the Trump administration have ancestors who are only in the country because they came to join members of their families who would be excluded from sponsoring them under the new proposal.

[Trump's] mother, Mary Anne Macleod migrated to the United States in 1930 from Scotland at the age of 18.
Sponsored by her sister. His grandfather also arrived this way. His Vice President's story is much the same.
Quote:
Pence’s maternal grandfather, Richard Cawley, came to the United States in 1923, according to Smolenyak’s research, joining his brother, James, who had arrived eight years earlier. James’s arrival at the age of 16 was predicated on joining his aunt, a woman identified in immigration documents only as “Mrs. Schnorr” of Illinois.

The list of Trump advisors is replete with similar stories - Stephen Miller, Dan Sciavano, Jared Kushner. John Kelly has recent immigrants on both sides.

The reality is, we all do. America is a main of immigrants and always has been. Even our Native American forebears were constant migrants. I've spent a good deal of time tracing their pre-colonial migration patterns. So those that exempt them, shouldn't. They're immigrants, too.

This whole immigration brouhaha has nothing to do with immigration and everything to do with racism.

"Let's get more immigrants from Norway!" Gee, what would be the predominate aspect of Norwegians that makes them more desirable?

Funny thing: I bet the only Norwegians who would want to immigrate here would be the criminals and misfits.

Well taking a side trip to the gutter; if we use the stylized Scandinavian archetype for a women, running it through a Donald Trump filter model, we arrive at the answer...

I keep imagining what would have happened if during Obamas term, Obama would have said "Lets get more immigrants from Africa."

It's obvious he wants more of "The Master Race" but Germans of today are not Germans of 1940. But of course, Norwegians are not the people he is imagining either. The average Norwegian that immigrated here would scold the Democrats for being too conservative.

Oh I get told that all the time by people in other countries.
They immediately laugh and say that the USA doesn't even HAVE a liberal party in any sense of the word.

And it's true.

Pulling us out by the roots, rather than up by bootstraps: 'Nation of immigrants' no longer: USCIS updates mission statement - USA TODAY.
Quote:
USCIS's new mission statement:
"U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services administers the nation's lawful immigration system, safeguarding its integrity and promise by efficiently and fairly adjudicating requests for immigration benefits while protecting Americans, securing the homeland, and honoring our values."

USCIS's previous mission statement:
"USCIS secures America's promise as a nation of immigrants by providing accurate and useful information to our customers, granting immigration and citizenship benefits, promoting an awareness and understanding of citizenship, and ensuring the integrity of our immigration system."

In conjunction with the new mission statement, "Keep Out" signs were posted around Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Goebbels approved the new wording.
