Whaddya know, it's gonna come in like a lion and go out like a lamb.

Welcome to the Roundtable for March 2018

We came, we saw, we conquered, or so said the first butterflies of Spring, because that's due to happen on March 20th, but why not have a piece of pi on International Pi Day, which of course is 3/14.

Back in 1781, some wise-ass discovered Uranus, and the world of space jokes has never recovered.

Of course, we humans didn't rest on our laurels, because on March 18th the very first space walk took place.
Nope, sorry...it wasn't an American, it was a Russian cosmonaut, Alexey Leonov, and he accomplished that feat of derring-do on March 18, 1965.

This March will be even more important as students from around the country take part in the National School Walkout on March 14 and the March For Our Lives on March 24.

And of course,
March 17th is Saint Patrick's Day

And if drinking green beer and pinching non-participants doesn't float your boat, don't worry because Good Friday is March 20th and Passover is March 31st.

And of course there's always March Madness if the hoops are your thing.

Here's hoping we pick up a few new members to round out our own madness. Glad to see a few longtime members pop in and visit...we missed you!

I'm very enthused about the teacher's victory in West Virginia. They weren't asking for that much, and they've inspired colleagues in other States. Our system for paying teachers - hell, education - in this country is insane. How can a nation such as ours be so penurious about one of its fundamental responsibilities?

It also highlights another serious failing - support of workers. Most of our economy depends on workers, yet they have been neglected for decades and deemed "The enemy" by Republican ideologues. Unions are the backbone of the American workforce, yet the concerted effort to destroy them had been effective, and is likely to be completed by the Supreme Court this term. People (voters) have forgotten that unions are responsible for almost everything they take for granted - vacations, overtime, pensions, social security, health care insurance, limited work weeks, safety and environmental progress - I could go on for paragraphs. Ignorance of history is just ignorance about life.

And we keep reaping the return on our meager and paltry investment year after year after year, and we refuse to admit that squandering our investment in education in favor of prisons results in less education and more prisoners.

I think there is a direct correlation between our paltry education outlays and the opioid crisis.

I'm appalled that news organizations aren't calling this race. Yes it's a few HUNDRED votes, but it's not as if it is disputable. Lamb gained votes since last night and there are fewer votes left to count than the margin.

So that makes me wonder. And I hope some lawyers here can help me. There is supposedly a clause in this agreement whereby if she doesn’t comply with the conditions of the agreement she will then held liable for $1M for each “indiscretion” she alleges.

Is that true?

And if so, how can that be enforceable? What if an “angel” benefactor would come forth and pledge to cover that $1M fine? For each and every incident.

Could that work? Assuming hypothetically of course that DJT is an honest feller and never in need of such lawyerly advise.

Those angels have already come forth. Many have pledged to cover the $1m per incident telling of the story.

Stormy is already at $103,000, she'll have the $130,000 by tomorrow night. smile

This is what Stormy should do:

She should take all $130,000 in $1 bills and deliver it right to the concierge at Trump Tower - and have the media present and make a big spectacle of giving the money back. smile

She should hire a Brinks truck and wait at the curb in a Navy Blue, pin-stripped lady's designer suit, white blouse opened to the bosoms, lacy beige bra showing, with beige fishnets and Navy Blue stilettos, holding a wheel barrel. The Brinks drivers unload the cash into the wheel barrel.

Stormy stuts the wheel-barreled cash into the Trump Tower at dumps it at the concierge desk and then tears up the NDA over the pile of cash.

All while the media records it.

laugh

Yeah, it's like watching real people having real sex. As opposed to watching some well-endowed MF screw a whore. I guess there is a place for both. I have not paid for porn for about 20 years. Free stuff on the internet makes it moot.

If any of you fine folk out there get Netflix I highly recommend you check out this documentary that they will begin streaming tomorrow. It is an absolutely mind blowing saga of an Indian guru named Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and his followers who came to Oregon in the early 1980’s and set up a large commune in the middle of desolate and remote Central Oregon.

The story is too bizarre and complex for me to even begin to describe (truth is indeed very much stranger than fiction will ever be), but all Oregonians who were of sentient age back then remember it very well. Frankly I am surprised that no one has made a documentary about this until now.

Better late than never:

Andrew McCabe fired two days before his retirement, just to screw him out of collecting his pension for many years. Jeff Sessions is a prick.

Trump is going to have ZERO supporters in the FBI. You mess with a man's pension and you are beyond the pale. FBI agents will ignore threats against you. Secret Service agents will duck when somebody starts shooting at you. CIA agents will shrug when Putin sends you to Hell with his nerve poison for betraying him after all the help he gave you. They will have to install floor drains for all the people who will come to piss on your grave. And that will be protected political speech.

Buh bye.

PS: When Democrats take over in November, they should fix this. I think all they need to do is hire Andrew as a civil servant for two days.

A lot of the Rethugliclowns on other sites think that Andrew will make more than enough from his tell-all books.

But, for me, that's not the point.

Also, Trump should avoid riding in convertibles for the foreseeable future. coffee Just saying. Hmm

The sinking ship:
Quote:

Retired Lt. Col. Ralph Peters, a longtime analyst for Fox News, told colleagues he is done with the network he says has become "a propaganda machine" for President Trump.

Peters said in an email first reported Tuesday by BuzzFeed that he chose not to renew his contract as a paid contributor with Fox News on March 1 because he was "ashamed" of the network. He said the 21st Century Fox-owned cable channel has gone from being a valuable conservative voice to "assaulting our constitutional order and the rule of law, while fostering corrosive and unjustified paranoia among viewers."

Peters' comments directly targeted the network's opinions hosts — which include Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham — for their consistent attacks on special counsel Robert S. Mueller III's investigation into Russia's interference with the 2016 presidential election. Mueller is also looking into whether Trump obstructed justice when he fired James B. Comey from his post as FBI director.

"When prime-time hosts — who have never served our country in any capacity — dismiss facts and empirical reality to launch profoundly dishonest assaults on the FBI, the Justice Department, the courts, the intelligence community (in which I served) and, not least, a model public servant and genuine war hero such as Robert Mueller — all the while scaremongering with lurid warnings of 'deep-state' machinations — I cannot be part of the same organization, even at a remove," Peters wrote. "To me, Fox News is now wittingly harming our system of government for profit."

Glad to hear that PIA and I hope he indeed sticks with his statement. I have for a long while, from time to time, watched FOX news and many of their spin off programs. It took a strong stomach but I endeavored to persevere.

Recently not so much. I had seen enough and it came to the point that I could fill in their blanks before even they could. FOX is a sorry site (and “tee-vee” news network) but they have already done their damage. And they do have their die hard fans that shall never let go.

Let’s hope that they do not die so hard.

And soon.

Remember when I mentioned the impending rise of the Sinclair Broadcast Group, which is several steps to the Right of Fox, and how Murdoch is something like "238 years old" and bound to kick the bucket fairly soon, and how his kids, while not liberals, do NOT share the old man's politics, and how those many things make for enormous pressure on Fox News Channel once the old man dies?

Don't be surprised if Fox News Channel becomes center, or center-Left.
Sinclair only needs to write a check, and flip a switch, and suddenly they would be a global cable channel with four times the market penetration of Fox News Channel.
They, unlike Fox, own a 73% market penetration in local stations, which they OWN OUTRIGHT, right now. Fox only has "affiliates", that they do not own.

Fox News Channel will go wherever the demographic is, and if SBG flips the switch, the current Fox demo will just migrate, almost overnight.
Fox will not win a battle for supremacy against SBG.
SBG is just biding their time right now, waiting for the right moment to pounce.

SBG owns a lot of local broadcast stations, but does anybody watch them any more? Is this kind of like cornering the market on buggy whips? I have an antenna and could watch free OTA TV if I wanted to bother. Have not turned it on in over a year...

Oh come on, those same OTA stations are carried on cable and satellite, so yes...people DO watch them all the time.
SBG owns stations which are affiliates of ALL three major networks, not just independents.
They don't force stations to leave the majors.
We are not talking about a bunch of struggling UHF outlets, we're talking everything from WGN in Chicago to KTLA 5 in Los Angeles, to WJLA-TV in Washington DC.
Sinclair owned TV

It's like having a majority of Congress belonging to the Church of Scientology. They don't stop being congressmen or senators, it's just that they are now all Scientologists.

The NRA should be quaking in their boots: There are 5 million NRA members but there are 195 million people of voting age in the US that favor gun control. Thirty nine potential voters for every single NRA member!

I support the right of people to have guns, but the NRA works hard to keep even the most sensible regulations from happening. And they have bought the politicians to make sure of that. I will never again vote for anyone owned and operated by the NRA and I urge you to do the same. Things can only change if we get rid of their stooges.
