WELCOME TO THE ROUND TABLE FOR JUNE 2018!

What's so special about the month of June, other than the fact that it is apparently "bustin' out all over"?

Why Is the Sixth Month Called June? ... It also may have been called “sere-month,” meaning “dry and withered,” though this term may have meant June, July or August.
In the seventeenth century, the Latin name for the sixth month crept into English, Iūnius, meaning “sacred to Juno,” the Roman goddess.

In Southern California, May Gray gives way to June Gloom, which is another way of saying that there's not much difference between the two, because until about the third week in June it remains overcast, slightly breezy and crisp, and then Summer comes in with a bang, and suddenly it's Sunny Southern California all over again, complete with tourists!

They're going to spend their money here, and they're going to gawk at all the touristy stuff, and as soon as they get back home they're going to make snide comments about California, because that's what they do. Oh well...

In New Orleans, Friday, June 2, finally gives us the excuse to eat donuts for breakfast, lunch and dinner, because it's National Donut Day. Be sure and have a beignet too, even though they aren't officially donuts.

Watch the professional oyster eating contest at the New Orleans Oyster Festival.
From 10:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4, you’ll find heaps and mounds of the finest oysters in the Gulf South.

Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day, is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. state of Texas, and more generally the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans throughout the former Confederacy of the southern United States.

One noteworthy mention, Texas made Juneteenth an official holiday.

Why Are They Called JUNE BUGS?

June bugs derive their name from the fact that adult June bugs emerge from the soil at the end of spring or the beginning of the summer.

Females bury their eggs just below the soil surface. June bug larvae hatch within 3 to 4 weeks and feed on grass and plant roots from several months to as long as three years. In spring and early summer, these larvae — also known as grubs — grow into pupae. Within 3 weeks, these pupae mature into adult June bugs.

Two famous Junes to remember are June Foray, the beloved voice of Rocky the Squirrel

and June Carter Cash, the talented and legendary significant other of The Man in Black, Johnny Cash.

Millions of Murricans are gonna hit the road this June to explore our great nation, so please keep a thought and kind prayer for the stranded motorists, may they find safety and a quick fix for their troubles wherever they may be.

Yeah we watched.
Charlemagne Tha God pissed me off when he said he had no sympathy for the crew on Roseanne. Now, I get that the cast knew what they were getting into but crew is crew, dammit. If you're a gaffer, or a soundie, or a camera op, or an editor, or any of the hundreds of people in a crew and you're union, you're going to take the jobs offered to you and do your best.
That doesn't mean you "signed on" with the Rosie bandwagon, it means you need to pay your bills.

I bet quite a few people who had planned their finances will have to sell their houses and everything else, too. Rosie screwed a lot of innocent people who just wanted to do their job.

I have sympathy for them: It's never fun to lose your job. But an important truth is that all the networks have a certain number of hours to fill, and they need crew to film whatever will fill those hours.

America is already great but apparently Canada is a national security threat. Donald Trump seems to think the Canadians burned down the White House in 1812.

Why yes, of course they did, and the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.

President Trump has announced that two defective food chillers aboard Air Force One will not be replaced, because the $24 million dollar cost is too high.

The two VC-25A chillers, which are custom made specifically for ONLY Air Force One, are part of five units which can store up to 3000 meals, which is enough to feed all 71 persons aboard for several weeks.
In times of war, an important aircraft might not be resupplied for weeks, even if it's on the ground.
And speaking of which:

The current Air Force One has had in flight refueling capability for a very long time now.
But guess what? The NEW Air Force One will NOT have it because the Trump administration deems it unnecessary.

Congress is questioning the wisdom of such a decision.

We can argue whether or not AF1 needs five mil-spec food chillers to supply three thousand meals, or less than five, and we can argue as to the cost justifications of freezing a sufficient number of Big Macs and KFC for the CiC and entourage, but in my humble opinion, cutting in flight fueling on the most important and most secure aircraft on the planet is, to put it bluntly:

RETARDED

Well, there were Canadians among the British forces that burned down the White House on August 24, 1814 (a date which I celebrate every year).

It was in retaliation for Yankee invaders burning down the town of York, Upper Canada (a site which became that of Toronto).

Sessions plan for decreasing immigration is to hold immigrant's kids, even if they are seeking asylum. They say "The kids will be taken care of".

I hear Trump has just the guy for that job: Jeffrey Epstein. He loves kids, and in fact he's been throwing parties for them for years.

You know what I'm curious about? How the Evangelical community can support Sessions' tearing a baby away from their mother's breast while she is trying to feed it. Then deporting the mother back to be murdered. Do you send the baby back to be murdered with her? This is NOT the act of a Christian: This is the act of a monster.

And these deportees are not Muslim or anything. These are devout Christians!

I guess only people who think of themselves as Christian will worship the AntiChrist. Evangelicals need to stop and think what they are doing. Trump is not only going to destroy the Republican Party, he's going to destroy the Evangelical movement as well.

Oh c'mon. Evangelicals don't care if the babies are ripped-away for the simple reason that these people Jefferson Beauregard Sessions is acting upon are "illegal." The United States is God's Country by golly: God, Guns and Ammunition.

You must be here or visit here legally. Interlopers are not welcome. Hmm

Get your facts straight first before you post Mr Rick. The US of A was built by Americans.. and not by foreigners. The sooner everyone realizes that the better off we all shall be.

Plus those babies are brown. So they are not really “true" Americans.

By a long shot.

A monster who quotes the Bible to support his immorality: Sessions invokes the Bible to defend separation of families at the border- the Hill. Clearly he was stung by clerical criticism of his policy. The devil quotes the Bible, Doncha know. What a sick Bayard

After all this is over, I wonder if we should make a constitutional amendment that says to run for President you have to have been the Governor of a state for two terms. That would eliminate a lot of the unqualified people. I say two terms because you had to be reelected once. If you were a total doofus you would fail to get reelected.

That way, the voters would at least have some indication if you were insane or incompetent. They would still be free to elect George Wallace or Gerry Brown, so I don't think it's too restrictive. We could add other ways to qualify, like serving as a four-star general for eight years, if you want to consider people like Eisenhower.

And no, I'm not worried about the Asa Hutchinson's of this country. Even if they were popular in their own hellhole state, everyone else would be able to see what two terms as Governor did to the place.

"... make a constitutional amendment that says to run for President you have to have been the Governor of a state for two terms."

On its face not a bad idea, but like any amendment there should be much discussion, political and private, about the idea.

Initial Cons: Past presidents that would not have been, if this was part of the Constitution from the beginning - George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D Roosevelt, Barack Obama to just name a few.

Initial Pros: President Donald (DICKtator wannabe) Trump would not be.

But those men may well have been President with this amendment because they would have served as governor before running for President. Right now, any popular idiot who is 35, has lived here for 14 years, and is natural born can run. This would create an occupational path. Lots of occupations have career paths.

The FDA has approved the first medical marijuana-based drug, which destroys the DEA's justification for keeping marijuana a Class I drug.

FDA Approves Medical Marijuana Drug

This is a CBD compound given to children with two different epilepsy diseases to reduce seizures. I think we are beginning to see the end of marijuana prohibition here. Next I think will be Sativex, approved in 21 countries to reduce muscle spasms in MS and pain in cancer patients. This is 50:50 THC and CBD.

I bought Sam from hemp-oil dog treats for his epilepsy. He has grand mal seizures. I really haven't noticed difference.

Two years ago I stopped giving him Frontline. I didn't want to believe it, and his neurologist assured me there was no connection, but Sam would have a seizure within 72hrs of me giving him a monthly dosage.

I stopped giving him any flea medication for over a year, the last time he got a dosage was in Portland in July 2016, then he got a bad infestation in January 2018, and his doctor here in the Puget Sound, put him on Revolution. Revolution is for pregnant dogs and puppies. He seems to tolerate that a lot better. His seizures are pretty infrequent since I took him off of Frontline.

Every human and probably every dog responds differently to some drugs. There are alternatives to medicating your dog for fleas. You can do environmental controls like vacuuming every day that wipe out fleas pretty quickly. We are just lazy, so we do it the easy way.

Speaking about unconventional medicine, lots of articles about Lyme Disease and chronic post-treatment Lyme Disease in the news. It seems about 5% of those treated with standard antibiotic treatment for Lyme Disease still have it. It may be impossible to find it in their blood and they may show no Lyme antibodies, but if you give uninfected ticks their blood, the ticks develop active Lyme bacteria in their guts! The standard tests for Lyme have a huge false negative and false positive result, so they are pretty much worthless. I really think the tick infection test is probably more accurate.

The Lyme bacteria screws with the immune system, which explains all the autoimmune diseases it mimics and why the tests tend to be so bad. But far worse, even victims identified by the CDC-approved test are assumed by the medical establishment to have psychosomatic symptoms, and medical boards discipline doctors who try to treat victims with post-antibiotic symptoms.

My wife is probably one of them. She was working as a Veterinary Pathologist in Indiana many years back and may have been exposed. She had an antibody screen years ago and had most but not all of the right antibodies for Lyme. Treated with doxycycline for a month. Even years later, she still has symptoms that have been diagnosed as undifferentiated connective tissue disease, which is a title they use when they can't figure it out. Also a Celiac-like abdominal syndrome, but again not really Celiac disease.

You know what she does for it? Quinine water and wormwood tablets. These pre-antibiotic treatments for malaria actually work pretty well for whatever she has. (Note that somebody got the Nobel Prize for Medicine last year for showing wormwood (artemisia) works against malaria.)

Last night's Real Time was the most depressing show I've ever seen. It all started when Michael Moore came on.
