As I've watched the Manafort trial unfold, I have come to appreciate just why Trump is freaking out so much. Mueller's team is demonstrating, publicly, how to take down an oligarch. The parallels to Trump are just too apparent.
Like Manafort, Trump is ostentatious in his profligate spending, has dubious sources of income and banking habits, hides his business in a web of shell companies, has a reputation for chintziness (except on himself), and hides an utterly corrupt nature under a veneer of chumminess. You can see in the meticulous care and attention to detail how the "Trump enterprise" can be taken apart in a public trial.
A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.
Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich
