The news has been decrying the loss of Aretha Franklin with some vigor, and I can understand that. Given the amount of coverage one would think that they might have just mentioned a few others that have been great (I think) and probably should get a little credit too.

How about: Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Nancy Wilson, Annie Lennox and even Blossom Dearie to name a few. (the list is long but, I think, those of you that know about this stuff understand)

Generally speaking we mourn them when they die and them gals got mourned right and proper when they passed. Except Annie Lennox, she's still alive...Too early to start on that one.
Right now it's Big Aretha's turn.
