Very good article interviewing the psychiatrist White House staff called to discuss Trump's mental deterioration:

Psychiatrist Says White House Officials Called Her With Concerns About Trump

She is very careful to explain the difference between diagnosis and evaluating dangerousness. She also has some interesting things to say about the American Psychological Association's expansion of the Goldwater Rule into a total gag rule.

Quote:
The increasing frequency in lying, the increasingly belligerent tweets, his inability to vary his responses to situations. For example, he cannot let a criticism go. He has to fabricate reality to situations that are distressing to him. And the thing about pathology, as opposed to normal reaction, is pathology actually becomes more rigid and more predictable. A healthy individual might be able to vary their response, especially if itís strategy. They can choose to act differently if something is not working. Whereas pathology tends to become more and more rigid as it worsens. And what weíre seeing is simple repetition now, and worsening, greater frequency of his poor coping mechanisms.

Has anybody read Mrs. Ford's CV? Holy crap, she's a professor at Stanford, has written books and over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, and deeply respected by all of her peers and students.

Orin Hatch says: "She's mixed up." But she first talked about the attack in 2012 when she was in couple's counseling with her husband, and Brett Kavanaugh was a DC Circuit Court judge on the other side of the country. In addition, one of her high school classmates said that the incident was well known around their high school, back in 1980. I really doubt Kavanaugh would have told anybody, and she says she didn't at the time. So that means Kavanaugh's friend must have told somebody back when it happened. They could ask Justice Gorsuch about that: They went to High School together, but I don't know if Gorsuch ran with Kavanaugh's heavy drinker crowd.

I think he's toast. A losing deal for Republican's confirm him or not. And Orin Hatch needs to move into Assisted Living...

Nah. He's not toast at all. He will be pushed through come hell or high water. The republicans are masters manipulators, and also don't give a rats ass if it's ethical or not. He will be confirmed before November.

Sad to say, but I agree with you Kaine. The precedent, Associate Justice Clarence Thomas. His accuser was just as impressively credentialed as Mrs. Ford, and Anita Hill testified with an FBI background investigation.

Republicans are not going to make the same mistake they did with Anita Hill. Then there was an "investigation" (cursory as it was). Now they will avoid it like the plague. There are too many potential skeletons in Kavanaugh's Kloset. He was, clearly, a heavy drinker and Mark Judge can testify to too many drunken "incidents" to let him be subpoenaed or questioned. There is only one agenda item for Republican leaders - hell or high waters - confirm him. They may lose the Senate, but darned if they'll lose the courts. They've cheated too hard to let that happen.

Karma has a funny way of catching up with such schemes. They could confirm him, and then on January 2nd Clarence Thomas could have a heart attack and die. They would have sacrificed owning Congress just to lose everything.

Or on January 27th, or the 30th. Things haven't been too hunky dory in the Thomas household the last year or so.
She caught Hell for posting Holocaust pics in response to social media protests by the Parkland shooting kids.

Clarence Thomas' Wife Posts Memes Trashing Parkland Kids and Comparing Gun Control to Holocaust

And he's been in the limelight ever since Kavanaugh's accuser stepped forward, and he's not enjoying it at all.

Maybe we can have a double impeachment in 2020 and replace both Kavanaugh AND Thomas with real jurists... say, like Merrick Garland?

Won't happen, the Democrats would need at least 66 seats to impeach a Supreme Court Justice and that does not allow for any Democratic Senators that do not vote for impeachment. If you think a Republican Senator would vote to impeach allhail

Actually, I think Clarence Thomas dropping dead is more likely than impeachment. Maybe in 2020, if the Blue Wave is still in effect.
