Finally we're getting somewhere... That Bombshell Report on Trump's Taxes May Spark an Investigation by New York Tax Authorities - Fortune. "Fruit, meet tree."

On Tuesday the New York Times dropped an investigative bombshell: President Donald Trump got at least $413 million from his father’s real estate empire, much of it through “dubious tax schemes…including instances of outright fraud.”
If true, the allegations not only belie Trump’s assertion that his father, Fred Trump, provided only minimal assistance in his rise to billionaire-dom—they also raise legal questions. And those questions have caught the attention of the New York State Tax Department.

“The Tax Department is reviewing the allegations in the New York Times article and is vigorously pursuing all appropriate avenues of investigation,” department spokesman James Gazzale told Bloomberg.

All very true. However, the NY State AG and Tax Department is not going to let this slide. There may not be Federal prosecutions, but there will be certainly state prosecutions. smile

kinda anti-climatic if it happens (assuming the main allegations are true and valid) after he is voted out of office (by a rigged election) or if he wins (and folks let that sink in as it may be a possibility) in 2020 we would have another 4 years of the WH Reality Show or Chaos is Good for the Trump's Bank Account before anyone touches him (and let this sink in - if they can prove anything)

The courts have said that a sitting President can be sued for stuff he did outside of his official duties in federal court. He could also be sued in state court.

Also, the state tax authorities can file both civil and criminal charges. They could confiscate all of his dirty money plus fines and interest. I think they could probably bankrupt him.

Interestingly, the "emoluments" suit can go forward on this basis, and criminal inquiries should be able to as well. As is legally well-established, if a government official is doing something "in violation of their office", they have no immunity, and can be sued in their individual capacity. There is no established exception for the President (as Judge Kavanaugh has opined).

By the way, I agree that nothing will happen to Trump this term. There is no way Democrats will have the votes, Republicans will be even more obstructive in the minority, and financial cases take years to put together (See Mueller investigation). But once he's out of office, all those protections go away. Business for the Trump organization will dry up without him in office, and the costs could be staggering.

My interest remains in getting at the truth and preventing Trump from happening again.

Perhaps you think a constitutional convention wold do the job? Well ... take a look around ... we are a divided nation ... you could not present the original Constitution to a convention and get it ratified.

after J Kavanaugh gets confirmed your concerns will be addressed .... but don't expect them to go your way.

Mr Trump is above the law. He says it. Republicans in Congress say it. And now the SC will say it.
