At one point Jackass was claiming that the American steel industry was wrecked, gone, destroyed by foreigners. The simple fact, easily found, is that the United States was the 3rd largest producer of steel in the freaking world and was actually exporting half their production. All that being said I don't remember a single so called news show that pointed that one out. I can, and so, I suspect can others, with such examples.
My problem with media is that they are constantly beating their breasts over "truth", "accuracy", "people's right to know", etc. On the other hand, whilst some actually do call those who lie, etc out there is absolutely no consistency. Hillary lost because she ALLOWED her enemies to accuse her of, literally, every crime in the book - FOR OVER 30 YEARS! If she did call anybody out it was either never or rarely reported (I continue to consider her to be a living saint <sigh>)
I believe that she set a tone of non-confrontation for the Democratic party and, now seemingly, the entirety of media. I also believe about advertising and market share having a LOT to do with the problem. I would offer a bit of wishful thinking. How about a law that would disallow news outlets for profit and, instead make them a service to the nation. This is the way it used to be - no more. WE have allowed greed to control all, with little or no pushback. Its really time, I think, that some kind of responsibility be forced on the nation and, as far as I am concerned that should belong to mandatory voting. That would certainly be a good place to start. If this should occur perhaps, just perhaps, the American voting public might respond with something like; "If you are going to force us to act responsibly we are going to return the favor and our target is our elected class of obvious irresponsibles". Oh, if you disagree with "irresponsibles" I would suggest googling "irresponsibility synonym" for available replacements.
I think my point is that the entire nation seems to be lacking any serious degree of responsibility, and we are now living the results of that.
I could, not unlike most others, go on and on and on but, I think, enough........
