Hurricane intensity is on the rise globally, as are, literally, tides. Climate Change Flooding In Rick Scott’s Florida Is Now Routine -- Even As He Denies Its Cause (HuffPo). It is no longer possible (Okay, rational) to deny the real-world impacts that the changing climate is having. Ice is melting and adding to the water levels. Although many scoff at a .5 to 2 inch rise in sea levels, they don't understand ocean dynamics. There are 139.4 million mi˛ of ocean surface in the world. A half inch of water is one third of a gallon in every square foot. There are 27,878,400 square feet in a square mile. For every square mile of ocean, that's an additional 9.23 million gallons of water sloshing around.

You, obviously, don't understand. Those who are called "deniers" are actually kindly Christians who understand that only the Lord has the ability to change the weather. Any inference that is not a fact is immediately dismissed as those kindly, and understanding, Christians that God needs their help to stick up for Him/Her as as not to piss Him/Her off. This is simply yet another example of what true believers can do when they set their minds to it, well, maybe not their minds but everything else?

Just saying.................

There are, in my view, two kinds of belief. One is empirical - I "believe" the world is spherical, that 2+2=4, that gravity exists, etc. - because I can make observations that confirm those beliefs. From those beliefs, I extrapolate objective reality and form a belief in science and scientific evidence as a method of inquiry, and a basis for understanding.

The other belief is spiritual. It is based upon "received wisdom" and is not subject to - and often contradicts - proof. The existence of God, the 6000 year old earth, the spontaneous creation of mankind are such beliefs. Because these kinds of beliefs are non-empirical, and often non-intuitive, they are not subject to refutation.

Most of mankind lives in the first world and understands that steps can be taken to address issues like climates change, economic prosperity, social justice. The rest are Republicans. Republicans are the Neanderthals of modern sapiens.

Boy aint that the truth. They seem to be willing to grudgingly accept that the climate is changing. But they want it to be a natural occurrence rather than one related to burning fossil fuels.

I haven't a clue what "natural" elements they think causes it but I suppose before too long they'll begin to grudgingly accept that carbon is the problem. Whether it's natural or man made, our very survival depends on reducing our carbon footprint and sequestering carbon. Neanderthals failed to do whatever they needed to do last time the climate changed and seem dead set on doing it again.

Soon to be Former Governor Scott has said that he doesn't know what causes it but he thinks climate changes all the time, it's just a cycle.

God came to me in a vision and said: "STOP BURNING CARBON." (All caps because it really was God.)

The boards of directors of some pretty influencial corporations would disagree with that sentiment PIA. There's Still trillions of dollars under the ground of market world that needs to be brought up to make a buck. It's their moral duty to pursue profits while externalizing costs.

I know not who came to you in your dream but it was not our death god Mammon.
What you say is heresy and I would advise you to stay quit lest the council of economic monks hear. Stay silent and let the calming waters of nihilism sooth your troubled mind.

Repeat the corporate mantra 'There is still scientific debate...'

I confess: It was actually "STOP BURNING CARBON, YOU MORONS" but I was trying to be diplomatic.

The way I see it, all that coal, oil, and natural gas in easy reach was our bootstrap. The way to get to an energy solution that doesn't damage the Earth. Stick with the old bootstrap methods and we exterminate ourselves.

How you gunna address climate change without addressing neoliberlism?
Not trolling but a serious question. I would like to know how the neoliberal fans can give any more of a coherent Clintonian quasi public/private partnership solution to this problem without confronting the underlying destructive force of neoliberalism.
The ultraright has found a simple solution to the problem. Maintain there is no problem.
What is the right wings ideas? Tax breaks for the well off is all I have seen so far....

Here's a guy with a british accent, so he's either a smart guy, villian or both, explaining what time it is much better than my clumsy attempt.
