Facebook’s promise was to create a more open and connected world. FRONTLINE found that multiple warnings about the platform’s negative impact on privacy and democracy were eclipsed by Facebook’s relentless pursuit of growth.

Facebook Delimma (Part 1)

Facebook Delimma (Part 2)

In Part 2, Brad Parscale, digital director for the Trump campaign and now for the 2020 re-election campaign, was interviewed. Brad stated:
Quote:
I spent $100m on a platform and I wanted a manual. Facebook said there was no manual. So they came to show me how to use Facebook to target users.

One major question I have: Where did that $100m dollars come from?

That is A LOT of money to spend on a platform to win an election. Hmm

To the billionaire donor class $100M is peanuts. At last count Jeff Bezos was raking in $238M a day.

Where'd it come from? Probably not out of their pockets. The billionaire donor class doesn't use their own money to get things done.

The internet...including and maybe even especially Facebook has done more to divide us than anything else. Perhaps Facebook did create a more open and connected world. But not too long ago dangerous radicals were mostly on their own. Perhaps gathering in small groups, drinking cheap whiskey or wine and sharing their dangerous thoughts only with each other. Facebook was able to bring them all together. The neo-nazis, the racists, the misogynists, bigots of all sorts were able to congregate in hate filled Facebook "groups". What might have been just pissdrunk radicals wallowing in their own vomit at the end of the night has expanded into school, church, and synagogue shootings spurred on by foriegn nationals posing as one of them and inciting them to violence.
Zuck seems like he was once a bright, promising young man who never imagined his platform would turn into what it is today.

But once they smell the money those bright promising young men become dark nightmares that haunt our very existence with their greed and avarice.

The main threat to Democracy is that anyone can publish their horrible ideas and find like minded monsters. When all we had was radio, TV, books, and magazines there was a lot more defacto censorship: People with bad ideas had a very hard time publishing them and getting them out there. Now it's easy.

It's the old dilemma: How tolerant of intolerance should we be? Do we go all out for free speech and let Nazis, child pornographers, and snuff movies proliferate.
