Trump instigated this shutdown after his administration proposed the budget that was passed by the Senate and while Republicans controlled the entire process. But everything about this shutdown is consistent with Trump's warped sense of reality. First, it is overtly racist. Trump is a racist through and through. He doesn't "see" color - if you're not lily white, you dont count as human (I'm not exaggerating, here). Second, he hates regulation, so doesn't understand the purpose of government, period. In that he is very Republican. Third, he thinks all government employees are against him (as "Democrats"), so doesn't see any issue with punishing them, period. They're all guilty. He'd also like to punish Puerto Rico and California for the same reason, so the idea of taking emergency funds from them, through the emergency declaring, for his wall is a win-win. Fourth, he sees Congress as his enemy, too, since they don't work for him.

Nothing about the shutdown or his wall is inconsistent with his delusions. He IS the threat to national security.

RAW STORY: "Checkmate"

The shutdown is an impeachable offense if Trump vetoes a bill to reopen the government.

The shutdown is probably Trump's panic response to half of congress being in "enemy" hands. He wants to makes sure government does not function when that function can hurt him. But of course, that idea is ridiculous since the Legislative Branch is not shutdown. But panic responses usually aren't logically consistent.

I suppose we are lucky the Acme Company doesn't make a House of Representatives-sized anvil he can drop from a cliff.

The Department of Justice is shut down, however.

I think the simple fact is that he has been slipping, insofar as his hold on the current news cycle. The shutdown distracts as well, or better, than most of that which Jackass has done previously. I suspect he goes to sleep at night happy with the shutdown. Its doing exactly as he though it would - it has distracted from Bad Trump (he thinks)

It was actually a response to Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh's criticism of Trump backing down when he was just about to sign the previous bills.

You can't make this stuff up. Hmm

I think from Donald's point of view, they called him a pussy and he did what he had to do to show everybody he's not. It's not really about a wall at this point. It's that Trump can't stand being a loser. He's taken his football and gone home. If everybody else won't let him make up the rules as he goes along, then he's not going to play.

But of course, he HAS to learn not to be a loser but to be a President with the House owned by the opposing party. It's a new set of rules. Any idiot can be President when his party owns Congress. Being opposed means you actually have to be patient, thoughtful, and willing to compromise. It's exactly the situation I predicted before the mid-terms. This may well end in his resignation, because it's too frustrating.
