I saw that, today, there is a huge Right to Life march by the anti-abortion folk. This group also, for the most part, support Jackass. The entire question has always amused.
They say that the chance for abortions have reduced crime by not producing unwanted children. Seems that unwanted children are more likely to be criminals. I have, incidentally, been kinda neutral on the question. I have always believed that if the Right to Lifers would take responsibility for their stance, by humanely raising and educating said child through college, that they might be right. Instead their solution is to force women to have babies they don't want and then let the said unwanted child swing in the wind.
Seems about right for that crowd which is just another group eager to tell others how to live their lives whilst demonstrating a lack of responsibility which, to my own mind, is criminal.
Just a thought................

I am, flat out, in agreement with you on this one. Right now its pretty disgusting.
I have certain beliefs about them that are seriously right to life. Men seem to be in the forefront of that battle The majority are against any kind of birth control They are, absolutely, irresponsible
This also reminds me about Orphanages and the general history of government supplied social services.
Its a simple fact, for instance, that ALL social services get cut when there is a money problem. When this administration is through destroying the economy we will see a LOT of that going on.
I once knew a couple of guy who were raised in Orphanages and they were both for them and seemed to look back with a certain fondness. They also realized they were lucky due to the above thought of gov support. Its not only Orphanages that get cut by politicians. In Washington state their main insane asylum just got shut down because they were not supported and the pay was minimum and that staff was either incredibly incompetent or seriously overworked. The results were failures, escapes, violence, etc. Inspectors just shut it all down. Who knows where the clients ended up - homeless and victimized, I suspect.
All that being said I believe that both orphanages AND insane asylums can be run competently and well - the problem is the politicians (and the voting public).

The foster care system is the WORST! What my friends told me about the orphanages was that they were grateful they had a place that didn't change. I remember once making a delivery to Ft Warden (in Port Townsend, used to be an army base and, at this time, it was a holding pen for children, not bad ones, just children). Anyway, one kid jumped in my truck and asked if he could ride with me and I let him. He was telling me about his life. His dad was gone and his mother was a drunk. When I was talking to him he was about 15 years old. He told me his mother kept him out of school and made him beg. When there was enough to buy wine he would be directed to a store that would allow him to buy the bottle and take it to his mother (I know, but the owner needed the business, I guess).
Anyway, I asked him how he liked it at Fort Warden and he said: I love it! I get to goto school, I get 3 squares a day and I have friends now. I spent about an hour with him. The state was shutting down this operation and the kid was put into the foster care system. He had been there before and swapped out about 4 of them for one reason or another. I have no idea what happened to him but I knew he didn't like foster care and loved Ft Warden.
I had a daughter I had problems with. She had a social worker who told her to lie to get her way (really!). She got into the foster care system (the foster parent was the wife of the local Safeway store). I remember them taking her out to a park where her 'friends' were. The fosters wanted to leave, her 'friends' told them they would bring her home (they were thugs) and scared the crap out of them. They were fostering to increase their income (they told her this). The ending is that I have 3 kids, everybody is working and nobody is in jail. The daughter figured it out and came home.
So - from my standpoint foster care is pure crap! OH, I got the social worker fired and when she tried to go after me I had my law dog pay her a little visit and explain some options. She moved.
Life is just a bowl of cherries!
