I wasn't aware of this:

I Took Magic Mushrooms To Treat The World’s Worst Headaches

This is factual evidence that magic mushrooms actually DO have a medical use. They seem to be fantastically useful for cluster headaches. They have been using ergot-derived drugs for this for decades, so it's not a surprise. This means the DEA legally can no longer keep psilocybin classified as a Class 1 drug. (Just like cannabis.) It has to be classified as a prescriptable drug.

I noticed stories about certain states decriminalizing the mushrooms, but I thought it was just for fun. This is a serious medicine for people with a chronic disease that makes them consider suicide.

The DEA has approved some CBD drugs, and there is currently a law suit to force them to reclassify weed.

Quote:
The "war against marijuana" arguably began in 1930, where a new division in the Treasury Department was established — the Federal Bureau of Narcotics — and Harry J. Anslinger was named director. This, if anything, marked the beginning of the all-out war against marijuana.

My favorite Anslinger quote: “Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men.”
Second runner up: "This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes"

So what's stopping the Democratic House from passing legislation removing cannabis from that list?

Passing it loudly and publicly and sending it to the Senate with much ado and as much fanfare as possible so that Mitch McConnell gets asked about it.

He is very much pro hemp and Kentucky has always been a big weed producer. Kentucky power brokers want de-classified weed.

So what's up with that? Is congress waiting for this to go through the courts too?

There is still some concern about young folks smoking weed. But almost nobody thinks us seniors should be forced to abstain if weed helps our ailments. If weed got reclassified even to Class 2, doctors would be able to prescribe it for old folks nationwide, which can help enormously in the effort to decriminalize it. Just about every senior citizen has some sort of health problem that weed can help, if only anxiety, insomnia, or erectile dysfunction.

No tellin' how far I mighta gone if I hadn't started smoking weed as a kid...probably not much further than I went anyway. Some of us just never were meant for greatness.

But yeah, kids probably shouldn't smoke weed or cigarettes or even drink alcohol to any extent until they reach 18.

But if they get their hands on a little it probably won't hurt them.

Cigarettes and alcohol aren't on that class 1 list, but cannabis is.

Cigarettes and alcohol have no medical uses whatsoever and in fact are much more akin to heroin or opiates than cannabis ever was.

This is another of those cases where we need to take a look at the Democratic Party and ask ourselves why we see so little movement on any progressive legislation.

Stupid prosecutions:

Jury Deadlocks On Charges Against Arizona Border Activist

Anybody who gives an illegal water or food, can be charged with a crime. But they can go to court and claim it was the core of their religion, if they are Christian. Jesus says quite explicitly in Matthew 25, that we are to feed the hungry, etc. So this humanitarian assistance for illegals is the most Christian thing one can do. Jesus even said "You did this for the least of these my brothers, so you did it for me." I would say that's more important than Communion or any other ritual of the Christian church!

Trying to prosecute people for acting on their religious beliefs is doomed, and just might lose Trump some support among people who claim to be Christians.
