Attacking Iran would be a huge mistake. They could attack the US with dozens of asymmetric terrorist acts with relative ease. As long as they have an intact country, they are restrained. Attack the country, and they send out all sorts of teams to wreck havoc. The first victim would be Israel, but the US would be next.

They shot down a drone they claim entered their airspace. We shot down one of their airliners on a scheduled commercial flight, killing everybody on board. Hardly comparable! People from the Russian invasion of Ukraine are being charged with war crimes right now for doing the same thing.

Quote:
Iran Air Flight 655 was a scheduled passenger flight from Tehran to Dubai, via Bandar Abbas, that was shot down on 3 July 1988 by an SM-2MR surface-to-air missile fired from USS Vincennes, a guided missile cruiser of the United States Navy.

Unofficially, Israel has over 200 nukes, so no attack on Israel will be forthcoming.
On the other hand, closing the Strait of Hormuz IS something they've been training for since...well...almost forever.

They don't even have to succeed or succeed long term, because any shutdown in the Strait will cause oil speculators to lose their sh*t and get hysterical.

Robert Rapier, an energy expert for Forbes, 60 Minutes, and God knows how many other shows and publications, said in 2012 that any Iranian closure of the Strait would likely result in $200 a barrel oil.

And that was six years ago.
You can bet it would be closer to 250 or 300 a barrel today, and that would translate roughly to between $7.00 and $9.00 a gallon for Regular Unleaded gasoline.

>200 nukes

That's about 100 more than they need to kill all humanity, or at least put the few survivors back to the stone age. Nuclear arsenals beyond that number are just psychotic displays of our asses to the other apes.

One item in my plan to rid the world of the insanity of it's own making is to eliminate all possible nuclear weapons in Israel and Iran. There is nothing wrong with having nuclear energy to bootstrap the process to true alternative and renewable forms of energy production. That being said, Iran will physically monitor Israeli installations for nuclear compliance and Israel will ensure Iran has no nuclear ambitions by selecting sites for intrusive inspections.

Around 1943 or so warfare and technology came together to create the Boomsday Scenario™ where a single order from a single man can end civilization and possibly all life on the planet.

"War" is no longer an option.

Every nation on the planet except the USA are fully aware of this. The international military industrial complex refuses to die despite the fact that war is simply not an option anymore. The United States of America fuels the entire war-based mindset with its international arms sales and fomenting of wars wherever they might be fomented.

Most of civilization is moving on...but not us.

**edit** I think what I'm saying is that we are the last superpower in a post-superpower world...

And yet there are several countries that have nuclear weapons. If we were not so damned paranoid and xenophobic, we would all give our nukes to the UN and embrace the International Criminal Court.

In The Lathe of Heaven, the protagonist wished for world unity and the result was an alien invasion!

It's a good thing that President Trump has imposed sanctions directly on Ayatollah Khomeini. Even though he's been dead for 30 years, he's really going to be hurting when he can't cash a check!

I see that, once again, Russian missiles are based in Cuba. They can reach us in 6 minutes.

A sure sign that America is Great Again.

I saw Putin warning about it but nothing about missiles actually being there yet.
