yeah I was a little fuzzy on that but you hit the nail on the head ... remember Sen McConnell? What is his mission? .... yep pack the federal courts with ideologues who will sustain anything conservative. If you don't give up Mr Trump ... can you spell quid pro quo ....

It all depends on what the majority of the Supreme Court Justices are: Conservatives or Republicans. Trump thinks he has five Republicans. I think he has maybe two. Conservative Justices defend the constitution. When Trump goes to court attacking some constitutional issue like the House's right to investigate, I think he's going to lose.

This is a fundamental flaw in Trump's "us versus them" concept of government. Most people actually have standards and know right from wrong. Some people are sociopaths, but they make up less than 10% of the population. Even Dexter had scruples, and that show was wildly popular. I almost feel sorry for that lawyer who argued in court not to give immigrant kids soap, toothbrushes, and beds. That dead albatross is going to hang around her neck for the rest of her career.

Some folks love the smell of albatross and dead brown children.

Conservatives.

Death lifts them up and tears sustain them.

Justices uphold precedent backing government regulators

Conservatives HATE that courts have to recognize the expertise present in government agencies. And Roberts voted with the four liberals to uphold it. He also saved ACA! I think Roberts dedication to stare decisis, and even Gorsuch's civil libertarianism, gives us a Supreme Court that isn't a majority of Trump fans all wearing MAGA hats and doing his bidding.

But they also ruled that federal courts have no say in partisan gerrymandering.

I just realized something important: Impeachment means Pence becomes President and pardons Trump. Defeat Republicans in the Presidential race and Trump can be prosecuted. It may be better in terms of justice not to impeach Presidents who can be prosecuted criminally.

First, eek cry :ohsnap: Pence as President eek. A Theocrat as President, not good.

It is my understanding that impeachment does not preclude criminal prosecution. Impeachment is just the process of removal from office.

Though, after Mueller's public testimony yesterday, and since the release of the report, I want "The Coward" to be impeached so bad. It is best to vote trump out...

Impeachment isn't even removal from office. It's just the House of Representatives saying he should be removed from office. Unless the Senate agrees, there's no point in it beyond stirring up a political cesspool. Leadership needs to weigh whether it would be good or bad for the 2020 elections. Because the Senate will not convict this president.

Pence could be dealt with. He's a religious prick but he's an honorable man. He also has the charisma of a garden slug and would never be re-elected, so yeah... he'd be nothing but a lame duck placeholder.

Didn't they just pretty much shelve impeachment prior to the elections?

Pelosi?? Her tactic is simple. She doesn't want to WASTE a powerful tool merely to make a bold statement.
If she is going to "shoot the impeachment gun", she wants it to be a full on double tap to the head that takes out the target for keeps, not just wind up being a dramatic hamster YouTube clip.

I wonder if the Congressmen who voted for impeachment of Pres Johnson or Pres Clinton considered whether they could get a conviction in the Senate?

My guess is they didn't consider it. They did what they considered their duty, regardless of motivation.

If Rep Pelosi does not hold Mr Trump accountable for his actions then we can effectively kiss any Constitutional mandate of any president as null and void. I guess once their power is abdicated every president henceforth can run crime syndicates from the Oval Office with impunity.
