Rather than posting as an obituary, I'm interested in thoughts about his political influence. Will he have a lasting legacy, or does his time pass with him. Of course, his brother is still here, and he's endowed plenty of right-wing think tanks. How much of a "driving force" was he?

He never got what he wanted, never even came close. He was a libertarian. But he put a lot of money into getting the Republican Party into the mess it's in now. I don't think he liked Trump or the direction the Party or the nation are headed.

So in the end, he died a failure.

He never got to see his precious "Rosebud". cry
And to all who might get indignant over anything being said on the left, all I can say is, "I'm sure you guys are going to be very classy when George Soros kicks the bucket."

Good riddance, David. One down, one to go.

He was very much a Libertarian, versus a classic Republican. Fortunately, that tilting at windmills wasted a lot of his money that could have been spent on much more nefarious things. He also endowed and funded a lot of cancer research, probably because he had prostate cancer for decades. Politically, he was frustrated because he funded candidates running on platforms of ending Social Security and Medicare, etc. He actually helped Americans by exposing how insane Libertarian ideas are: Their slogans are catchy (Government IS the problem.) but you don't realize how crazy their platforms are until one of them gets funded enough to start advertising it. Then most everyone backs away in horror.

I wonder where he will be buried. I know a lot of people will want to have a dance party...

I hear Charles is worse.

I can't figure out which one of the brothers said it but supposedly it was David that said "I just want my share, which is all of it."

As a Conservative "Republican" and is mildly libertarian my only feeling about the passing of David Koch is my sympathy for his loved ones. As a political force he was too much of a loose cannon to be effective. Let us not speak ill of the dead, now or in the future, when George Soros shuffles off this mortal coil.

The good news is that Charles was the OLDER brother. He's 83. He and all of his brothers have prostate cancer.

It will be interesting to see what his wife and other heirs do with his money when he is gone. She has concentrated on cultural stuff. Here is some interesting stuff right out of Wikipedia I bet you didn't know:

Quote:
In July 2015 Charles Koch and his brother were praised by President Obama and Anthony Van Jones for their bipartisan efforts to reform the criminal justice system.[64][65] For roughly a decade Koch has been advocating for several reforms within the prison system, including the reduction of recidivist criminals, easing the employment process for rehabilitated persons, and the defense of private property from asset forfeiture.[65][66] Aligning with groups such as the ACLU, the Center for American Progress, Families Against Mandatory Minimums, the Coalition for Public Safety, and the MacArthur Foundation, Koch believes the current system has unfairly targeted low-income and minority communities all while wasting substantial government resources.[65][67]

In February 2016, Koch penned an opinion piece in The Washington Post, where he said he agreed with presidential candidate Bernie Sanders about the unfairness of corporate welfare and mass incarceration in the United States.[68]

In June 2019, the Charles Koch Foundation announced the foundation of anti-war think tank Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, cosponsored by George Sorosí Open Society Foundation.

I'll be waiting for you to issue that "fatwah" when Soros does kick the bucket. I am sure the Right will be so-o-o-o classy about it!
