It isn't always us vs them, sometimes we unite and become greater for it.

Sometimes we unite to conquer real enemies. Sometimes we unite with our enemies to become even greater.

But there are always those working in the background to create division and discord for personal gain. You'll find it in schools, in churches, in the workplace, and ultimately in government.

Divide and conquer is the oldest trick in the book and it works every single time on the most gullible among us.

Why do we unite? We unite against a "them" that is larger than the "us" we are a part of. The "us v. them" is instinctual. It is ingrained in our behavior. If it wasn't no one could create the division and discord for personal gain.

And so you deem it impossible to unite for the greater good.

Only to destroy our "enemies".

I think therein lies the problem with republicanism. There is no greater good, only us vs them. There can be no common cause, only the destruction of our enemies.

Makes sense in a way. That's why yall want to destroy the country. Because you're sure that at least half the people here are your enemies.

My comments are about how back when man lived in caves and eked out a living hunting and gathering that in order to survive the "us v. them" instinct became part of human nature. My comments are about how the human species developed survival skills when mastodons were a source of food. Mastodons

Haven't changed a lick as near as I can tell, or at least some of us.

Others woke up and realized that path led to destruction. We can unite for the greater good or we can die off as a species. We'll likely bicker among ourselves until it's too late.

That some of us haven't is why it would be difficult to find say ten years in human history when there wasn't a war of some sort,

I got two terrier dogs and they do some of that. But it's usually very short engagements and then they are playing or chasing something together or sleeping back to back on the couch. They don't fight for sport and entertainment like we'uns do.

How do you know this? I spent some time in the Tarahumara environs back in the late 90's in Mexico, where many of them still "live in caves". They seemed pretty socialized and not violently antagonistic to "them". They were, however, totally treated like shiit by the Mexicans.

That's bizarre. Sorry...

It is not bizarre. Show me a period of human history of more than ten years where there wasn't a war or some sort of armed conflict somewhere in the world.
