Democratic senate majority leaders Reid from 2011-2014 tabled almost all Republican House passed bills while the Republicans howled.
Just curious, how many of those House passed bills had "REPEAL OBAMACARE" pasted onto them? I think it was something like 50 or 60.
Just think...if they hadn't repeatedly hoisted ACA repeal onto each and every one of those bills, we would have at least had that many more bipartisan bills passed, or at least looked at seriously.
I don't know. I'd say every time the GOP house passed one, it hit the news big time. So it couldn't have been many. I'll add this, I think a lot of the bills Reid tabled was so his Democratic Senators in red states wouldn't have to make an official vote or take a stand on the passed legislation.
This political strategy of tabling any bill that would force a Democratic senator in a red state either voting his constituents wishes or the party line from Reid probably saved the senate for the Democrats in 2012. Also the fact the GOP was extra stupid in nominating Aiken and Mourdock in Missouri and Indiana ensured a Democratic win there. But the good political strategy for 2012 failed in 2014.
Whereas much of Reid's tabling was to protect his slim majority by not giving republicans a campaign issue to use against incumbent Democrats in Red States, McConnell doesn't have an issue problem as the Republicans don't have any Senators from a blue state up this time around. There's a few from swing states, Collins Maine, Gardner Colorado, Ernst Iowa that come to mind. McConnell's problem is Trump. Much more than having a senator choose between the party line and the people of his state.
Trump's popularity has plummeted in a few red states to at or below the water line. Arizona, North Carolina, Georgia are all in my opinion up for grabs. Throw in Maine, Colorado, Iowa, that's six seats that very well could switch next year. The rest look pretty solid GOP. Only one Democratic seat is in danger today, Alabama. A state Trump has a 60% approval rating. Jones is most likely gone.
By the way, I'll start my Forecasts on DP probably in the December/January time frame if you followed any of them.
