I wonder if the postal service is good in Costa Rica, so you can get your Social Security checks reliably. I think a lot of folks with meager retirement incomes are going to end up in foreign climes. I also wonder what that will do to the electorate?

The Social Security checks get automatically deposited to the Costa Rican banks. They used to require $1200.00 a month for immigration. Probably higher now but it's easy to immigrate there.
It's a tropical paradise. On the cheap. I'd be there if my legs hadn't give out.

Yeah I kind of doubt Costa Rica is super up to date on handicap accessibility. If you're lucky enough to hang onto your health it is definitely an option though.
I know four old farts who moved there already and to a one they're in love with the place. Of course, they're all old grey haired surfers, wouldn't you know it LOL

One thing to watch out for walking around in nature in Costa Rica, is the Fer-De-Lance. Highly venomous pit viper: Bites usually result in extensive necrosis, even with antivenin treatment. Without antivenin, you usually die. Fortunately, they seem to have a lot of it and even treat poor people.

A production assistant for Naked and Afraid got bitten and lost a big part of his foot.

See, I never understood why these salacious shows don't just bet the farm on premium cable.

Imagine "Naked and Afraid" if it was on premium cable.

Casting would pick women and men that look like beauty pageant winners and male strippers and they would actually be nakey nakey.
No blurring out the naughty bits, just a great big reality tee vee skin show.
The #@^!@($-ing ratings would be through the roof.

Yeah yeah, I know...in reality the real appeal of these shows has to also cater to all the phony moralistic types who would freak out if real actual nakey people popped up in their living rooms.

"This is a wholesome family friendly show!" LOL

Yeah sure, just like the B-movie I edited back in 1990 was a "wholesome family friendly movie".

I also played a bit part cameo as "Jack", the gay tanning salon owner.
Know why? The producer's best friend was Ron Jeremy. He was supposed to be Jack, but the finance people objected, saying it would hurt the "family friendly values of the movie".

So, five hundred extra bucks to put on a pair of bike shorts and say, "Relax paleface, let's get some color on your skin, these ladies don't date polar bears."

I actually saw a fer de lance while I was there. It was on my hotel doorstep at a Pacific side resort. The guide just shooed it into the bushes. Much the same as I'd do with a rattlesnake.

A buddy of mine ran into one of those when we were in Panama for JOTC. He ran one way, the snake slithered away the other direction.

Which was the ideal outcome, of course.

I draw the line at water moccasins though. They're like cockroaches or mosquitoes and don't serve any useful purpose. You stomp 'em, swat 'em and take their heads off with shovels. Peaceful co-existence with nature only goes so far.

I got bitten by a rattlesnake once. It hurts like holy f*ck. And then it hurts some more, and it just doesn't ever for one minute stop hurting. And then you get sick. Goes on for about 2-3 weeks then it takes months to heal.
