What if you were to try to network through your router? How do big companies with multiple machines get each to talk to each other? Try their approach. smile

So far no joy...yes the router, that's what I am talking about.

I switched as soon as I could. First time bricked the machine and I had to haul it in for repairs. One other time since then an update slabbed it. I know how to drive one of these things but I'm no mechanic, y'know?
It was a fancy gaming machine back in the day, shite tons of RAM and enhanced graphics so I've always kept it updated and upgraded. It got a new motherboard a while back due to a lightning strike and the mechanic said the hard drive was showing a little wear but not looking too bad.

I never do that, not ever.
Rule of Thumb for Windows OS's: Always wait for the first or second service pack before migrating to the new OS.

Every Windows OS in history has fell on its face until the first couple of service packs get issued.
By the way, Apple updates often break installed software as well, so it's not entirely exclusive to Windows.

I used to hear screams of agony from Mac based editors all day long back when I worked at Complete Post.
I was one of the guys who worked AVID on a Windows system...everyone else was Apple Final Cut Pro, which I have always hated.

Windows 10 intentionally broke software, and when my laptop dies, I will not be replacing it with a windows machine.

While I hope to die before this machine needs to be replaced I will unfortnately probably live longer thn it does. When it goes, the cheapest piece of Hewlet Pckard crap I can lay my hands on will suffice to deliver the news, porn, and communication I use this machine for.

As long as runs reliably, which Microsoft's OS seems to most of the time, I will in the immortal words of GW Bush..."Stay the course."

I'm not proud or choosy.

Some are on the cutting edge...some use outdated software until it crumbles into dust.

Politics is sometimes like that too.

Some cling to the old and outdated and some look to the future and are willing able and ready to change.

Maybe some bugs will need to be worked out as we go along.

One thing that even Windows 7 "broke" is requiring Microsoft-signed drivers. It was a security thing to prevent rootkits. So some older hardware and software would not run on Win 7 (or 8 or 10). But you can actually turn on "test mode" and it relaxes that requirement, in all versions.

The only problem I have now is that Chrome and Firefox browsers are not well-behaved with Netflix. They stall about every 10 minutes when they drop a frame and don't recover with out a reload. But Win 10 Edge does work correctly with Netflix. Never stalls.

I was amazed how well my Win 10 upgrade from 7 worked. It really did not have a single hitch. Just took several hours and reboots, even with a 40 MBPS internet connection.

It gets lonely having a Mac. It's like being a youngster at a dinner party of seniors and not having any medical conditions to brag talk about.

Love mine, though it took a lot of convincing by a lady who worked for me. Does everything I want, and the Logic Pro X music suite is fabulous.

Also bought a Lenova laptop to replace an elderly HP desktop, but it leads the lonely life collecting dust on a desk rather than a lap. May as well be a big backup drive.
