Quote:
I was raised Catholic but "fell away" at age nine when the pastor informed me that my salvation may be in question "as the product of an illegitimate union."

So you might understand that ever since then I've been skeptical of organized religion on the whole.

Dad was raised with an atheist father and a baptist mother. My grandfather passed long before I was around. Dad never had a Christmas until my oldest brother's first one. Grandpa Coon was told by my mom to join or get out. Gramps joined the party, though not the belief system.

How'd Gramps & Grandma reconcile their different beliefs? Don't believe they ever did or that it ever mattered. But it did produce a quote from her that I absolutely love...regardless of belief. Regarding his lack of belief, in the context of their own kids, Grandma said "I suppose he thinks his little thing made these kids all by itself."

My own fall away was cemented in a CCD conversation with a nun who agreed with my points of skepticism and was justified in taking the walk. Mom never said anything. Dad asked if I felt satisfied hurting her with my lack of catholicism which amused me since I truly believe he was an atheist himself.

And we ate fish on Fridays.

Near as I can tell my folks sent us kids to Sunday School so they could f*ck on Sunday morning.

Catechism (aka CCD) on Saturday mornings, probably for much the same reason, LOL...at least up till around the time I turned seven or eight. I think the moaning and groaning slowed to a gradual stop after that because as it turns out, my old man was apparently quite the scoundrel.

And he reaped the whirlwind for it eventually, but to my mom's credit she took him back and they spent the rest of their lives even closer than before. I think I will give her the credit for that.

"Das Nuke" is lucky she did, too.

My own Mom used to throw out poignant remarks about how she worried about my salvation. Finally I was forced to tell her that thing the pastor said to me that I'd been carrying around for so many years.

I told her, and then said that, if anything, it strengthened my spiritual convictions even as it burnt my view of organized religion.
I told her that the pastor's little fatwah made me feel as if I'd bought a car that turned out to be a lemon the first week and that the car company told me tough beans, and so while I still had strong spiritual beliefs, this was a betrayal by my own team and I was simply switching to a different "brand", that's all.

I think she finally made her peace with that, possibly also helped by the fact that, if I was in the area and she wanted to attend services, I would attend with her out of respect. Karen did the same, and she was proud to show us off to her pastor.

Re Trump and paying for abortions, I would bet a thousand dollars he's paid for no less than a dozen but I also suspect that all this happened so long ago and that it was probably all in cash, and therefore impossible to track down, and even if someone were to come forward with an anecdotal account, it would have all the impact of Christine Blasey Ford against Kavanaugh.

Oh how I wish there was some fixer and a couple of clinics that could trace it all back to Trump in writing.

Trump was pro-choice until 2011, just about the time he decided to become a Republican for the third time in 2012. Then he became pro-life. Between 2010-2012 Trump changed his stances on quite a lot of issues. We tend to forget Trump was a Democrat for most of his life except for a couple of excursions as a Republican, Independent and became a member of my tiny Reform Party for a couple of years, 2000-2001. In 2001 Trump went back to being a Democrat.

Nah, Trump only pretends to be a member of a political party as long as he thinks he can reap some personal benefit.

I happen to know that he is a card carrying member of the shadowy Narcissistocraticans, aka Deeply Greedy State.

All that would lead to is more special pleading.

Trump's "spiritual adviser", Paula White-Cain, supports abortions - at least in the case of Satanic conception.

Seriously, she said she's quoting Scripture!!

That would excuse any Trump funded embryo exterminations.
