The latest stock market downturn - No, not coronavirus

Do not think that the plunge in the Dow is due to the coronavirus, which is the bullsh*t that corporate media is attempting to feed you. Don't blame it on Trump either. History has shown that, after every huge advance in the stock market, there comes a soul crushing low. It's the way the market works, and Presidents and politicians don't have as much to do with that as you might think. I don't believe that we are quite in recession yet, but we are about to be. After a more than 10 year positive ride, the market is due for a correction and a resulting recession. The coronavirus did not cause what we saw this week so far. It was negative earnings news coming out of Europe that triggered it. Still, I think the market will rebound quickly, but a moderate to moderately severe recession is going to hit for sure later this year, as a market correction takes place.
On the other hand, since Trump keeps claiming credit for a market that was already a bull market 7 years before he came into office, he can take credit for the coming recession too. He can't have it both ways. He can lie about being the one responsible for the bull market if he wants to, and then, before November, the market will kick his ass six ways from Sunday, and he will have some serious explaining to do if he wants a snowball's chance in hell of keeping his job. LOL.

Welcome to the madness, danarhea. I am actually surprised things didn't begin to tank earlier, like when the Yield Curve flopped over a few months back. Inverted Yield Curve and Why It Predicts a Recession Some are saying it's not the boogeyman it used to be because it is monitored too closely.

LOL. Hey Man! Welcome to the Rant! One item I would offer as a caveat to the above: Imbalances and bubbles tend to build until something pops or pushes them over. That thing can be said to have kickstarted the devaluation and, in this case, it may be coronavirus. Personally, I'm going to be very interested to see what happens with the Chinese economy, which I have long suspected as being a paper tiger.

Again, Trump doesn't have that much to do with the downturn, and neither do the democrats. Here's what is shaking the market:
1) Bad economic news out of Europe, as I mentioned before.
2) This week's report that manufacturing in the US is down, and is now in negative territory, which is a major leading indicator.
3) And yes, the coronavirus seems to be the pin that is popping the balloon, as Jeffrey stated. But everything was already in place for a slide.
4) Also the inversion that Jeffrey mentioned happened months ago, and a recession has always occurred within a relatively short time after that, as people dumped stocks and bought bonds.
I think what's going to happen is that the Fed will cut interest rates again, but with the prime rate at the level it already is, there is not much wiggle room on that.
I don't think what's coming is going to be as bad as 2008 for many reasons, but it's not going to be good, and it's going to last a while. When the stock market crashed in 1929, the DOW didn't reach that level again until the 1950's. The DOW won't lose as much this time, but I think that the time it takes to recover will be on the order it took after the 1929 crash and, considering how much people know about economics, every president in office during that time, Democratic or Republican, will be getting blamed by the other side. LOL.

Do not think that the plunge in the Dow is due to the coronavirus, which is the bullsh*t that corporate media is attempting to feed you. If I miss shipments because my vendors or my clients are in a quarantine zone, that is going to harm my business. Multiples of that harm the economy.

I think its a fact that the corona virus has slowed down deliveries to the US. Apple, for instance, had its entire Chinese production shut down and they are in trouble as they are running out of stuff and this isn't the only one. Now add in the simple fact that Europe is very close to having an economic collapse all on its own and that has hurt our exports. There are other things going on as well and none of them good.
When you take all of that in, and then consider the stock losses in the last few days (multi-trillion dollar losses) I think we are going to be in for it. If they start talking about job losses then we are in for int and there is a good chance to take out Trump.
Not all bad!
