Well, that may be true. I know the woman who is in charge of education has TWO yachts! (knows nothing about education and has, so far, trashed every school district she has got interested in) Almost makes sense to me. <G>

More than just Sanders.
Lots more.

I am opposed to the very concept of billionaires, for mathematical reasons.

Nobody really needs a billion dollars. It doesn't make you any more comfortable or secure than a few million, but it does make a lot more people at the bottom go hungry and homeless. That's why we need to drastically change our tax rates and inheritance tax. Just for the ethical well-being of the country, if nothing else.

Sort of...there are people who DO need a billion dollars, just not for quadrupling their supply of yachts and private islands.
If you're lucky enough to earn a billion dollars, to me that is the Universe telling you that you need to devote a generous portion of it to making life more advanced and liveable on the entire planet.

....if a person is a billionaire because they used violence (state or otherwise) to steal from others (corrupt government officials can pull this sort of thing off in countries without decent protections), then this can be the case.

In a market economy, however, that claim is.... not reflective of reality. People tend to become billionaires because they figure out a way to serve others in new and powerful ways, and they figure out how to serve millions and preferably tens of millions of peoples in those ways. I am not poorer because Bill Gates sold me some software and a user interface - my life is better because of that exchange. My life is not poorer because Steve Jobs sold me an iPod back in the day - my life is more enjoyable because of that exchange. Billionaires tend to create plenty of millionaires around them, and improve the standards of living and lives of millions more.

There is no more reason to suppose that, because one person is a billionaire, I must be poorer than there is to suppose that, because one person diets and exercises, they have made me fatter.

You cannot become a billionaire without stepping on people.

And then once you are a billionaire, your money steps on people by itself, because you cannot ethically manage billions of dollars.

It's definitely hard to argue that having a whole lotta stuff isn't what makes for a rich and enjoyable life.

Fact is, having stuff is the basic purpose of life. I am a consumer unit!!

It is also worth mentioning that billionaires are by definition economic sumps.
