Recently, I purchased a 3 year subscription to Nord VPN, and it is wonderful. Just one problem. While there is a graphical user interface for Windoze, there in only a command line program for Linux. So I coded a GUI program for Linux, and have named it Nord VPN controller. I have tested this on Ubuntu Linux and it works great.

If anyone here wants a copy of my Nord VPN Controller, send me a message, and I will get it to you.

I used to have a Lindows machine but after something like twelve years of faithful service, it finally gave up.
I do have an older HP laptop with a dead screen...the machine itself works well. Maybe I might load some kind of Linux distro on it, but I would want to make sure that all the gizmos on it will work because it really was a feature packed laptop.

It has the usual SD card reader but also has eSATA, AND a cardbus, AND HDMI out. It even has a nifty dock although I've never used it.
Maybe I could try to find the correct connector and a model correct dock for it...I dunno.
I would try to run it "headless" or run it on the second HDMI input on one of my monitors.

Since I am largely ignorant at this point as to how advanced Linux has become, I am laboring under the impression that finding drivers for Linux is still a tedious process.

Are you able to disabuse me of this notion (drivers)?

I have been using PIA for years, on Ubuntu - works fine for me. I am aware of several others available but the new Ubuntu will have, I think, a VPN built in.

See? I don't even know the current best distro.
Lindows isn't as good anymore? I wouldn't know. (LOL)

I heard of Ubuntu but I thought it also went into the great beyond, so iggie am I.

ubuntu is just another operating system. Ubuntu comes in a pile of different flavors. Some are kinda windows clones. I gave up on windows and moved to linux because I got tired of making Bill richer. here is a link:
https://itsfoss.com/which-ubuntu-install/

its a little more complicated than windows but has some things windows doesn't. If you program it has all the tools you need to have at it and your software can be made to not only run on linux distributions but also windows. there are also some great gui's to assist in the programming if you need such. It will also run alongside of widows.

I am definitely NOT a programmer of any kind, not even remotely.

Depends on the distro. I run Linux Mint 19 Tara, which is a Ubuntu variant, and I just click a button to find drivers. Might not be the same for other distros.

One advantage of Linux is that you are not subject to drive by downloads, and to install a program of any kind requires you to input your password. Linux is pretty much virus proof, which is one reason that viruses targeting Linux platforms are pretty much non-existent. Key loggers don't work with Linux either.

Programmer? Oh yea. I mostly code in Delphi or Lazarus, which are variants of Object Pascal for Windows or Linux, respectively. I also code in C# and Java (Android only with Java). Now English? That's another story. Actually, I'm bilingual. I'm ignorant in both English and Spanish. LOL.

Mint is pretty nice. Isn't there a an Ubuntu community and archive that would be happy to have your Nord front-end? I've had a three year Nord subscription for about a year now, but I run it on Windows. Have not given Bill any money for a long time: Got my Win 7 with a used machine, and just upgraded it to Win 10 for free. Seems to work fine.

Used linux a lot when I was working. It was all embedded stuff, so linux was a natural for tiny boards with ARM processors. A lot of those boards come with linux in flash.
