Andy Beshear is the son of Steve Beshear, the Democratic Governor Bevin replaced. Steve Beshear severed two terms, so Any had the name recognition. Since the end of WWII, Kentucky has elected but 4 Republican Governors and all 4 served but one term. So Kentucky electing Democratic governors isn't unusual in the least.

Calling Kentucky a pure tossup seems right to me. You'll also have Trump's coat tails that could squeeze Mitch through. Not only does Trump have a 57% approval rating in Kentucky, he leads Biden by 12 points in a head to head match up. So we'll see. McConnell might not even make it out of the GOP primary.

Funny how often we arrive at the same conclusion by totally different means. Maybe it's a Southern thing, a way of looking at the world and knowing how it works.

I look at the reality of any political situation through the numbers provided. I leave the heart out of it. Then add some history, in McConnell's case, history of elections. McConnell was first elected in 1984 and then reelected five times. Many of those elections were close.

I heard millions of lame excuses in 2016 and I expect to hear millions more in 2020.

If you've got the votes your guy will win. Otherwise the other guy will. The thing to do is get behind the guy that wins.

That's how it goes, right?

Well, not always. Hitler got more votes than any other candidate, so they made him ruler of Germany. Getting the hell out would have been a lot better than getting behind the guy that won, in that case. My co-worker Annaliese told me about that. Wandering around Cologne and finding an orange peel in the gutter, and running home with her prize to share it. Or her mother taking the wrong turn trying to escape the allied invasion, and building bridges for the Soviets for 7 years.

Three out of four of us here at the Haas-cienda are too old and ill to get accepted in any other country, or we would have gotten out in 2017, I guarantee you. The best we could hope for would be to live as illegals in Mexico. I've discovered that apparently quite a few Americans do just that, and apparently Mexico doesn't bother them if they keep their nose out of trouble.
But we can't afford to be illegals in MX because three of us need a lot of help. We can pay for it but it draws a lot of attention.

So getting out is not an option for our family, like it was for my father and mother in their time.

And letting Trump win because Biden isn't perfect is very much the equivalent of letting Hitler win, and the CV19 crisis is the perfect avenue to Trump's Enabling Act, and it takes steroid enhanced stupidity to justify that.

Everybody here seems to believe that getting rid of Trump solves some sort of problem or changes something.

It does not.

That is the most urgent common denominator though...
