I have two probably less obvious observations about thorium reactors... first the negative: I can't seem to stop thinking, "I have a thor thumb," whenever I see or hear the word "thorium".

On the positive side, pertaining to the Moon colony possibility, I think we could export all Trumpers to said Moon colony, telling them that they are being raptured, or that they are going to become rich thorium miners. Talk about a win-win!

Talk about inter-planetary travel has recently mentioned that colonists could make concrete from their pee.

If they could make it from s*** the republican idea would work perfectly because they are all full of it.

I've been looking at a blog called Peak Prosperity. Lots of interesting Covid-19 scientific data, but he also has some important things to say about our economy. How for the last 50 years it has all been based on the idea of borrowing from the future, and that maybe now "our note" has been called. He says we have to live within our means, economically, and environmentally.

National debt, topsoil depletion, pumping the atmosphere and ocean full of CO2, and pressurized uranium reactors are good examples of putting off serious problems for the future. One of those "living within our means" things might be widespread adaption of smaller thorium salt reactors. I live downwind of the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant. It's been decommissioned now, because everything is too old to be safe, but they still have tons and tons of highly radioactive waste stored right next to the ocean.

As far as I can tell there are countries either getting ready to build or are building a thorium reactor:
China
Russia
United States
Canada
South Africa
India

It makes total sense: We don't even have to mine the stuff. We have scads of it just laying around in mine tailings. All we have to do is scoop it up and truck it to the refineries.

As of 2020, there are no operational thorium reactors in the world

Lots of plans though. Still mostly a money pit while oil is cheap and sunlight free. By the time these things are operational they'll be left behind by battery technology. Tesla is closing in on million mile batteries. Solar panels and battery packs are the grid of the future. There's a big fusion reactor in the sky beaming free energy to us!

Money for research and investment into infrastructure might be hard to find in the coming lean years too.
