This interview of Edward Snowden is a must watch. While all of us never Trumpers continue to criticize Trump for the insane things he is doing, we cannot forget that it is not just Republicans who are attempting to turn America into the elite's personal ant farm. Obama promised to end America's spying on it's citizens that was being conducted by the Bush administration. Instead, he elevated spying on American citizens to a level that Bush could not have imagined in his wildest wet dreams. Edward Snowden blew the whistle on it, and is, IMHO, one of the great American heros for doing so. Watch the interview, and then ponder the possibility that the freedoms laid down by our forefathers are at stake here. Is America as a nation going to continue to live, or will it become the Oceania depicted by HG Wells, run by a dictator, with all of us stripped of the freedoms guaranteed by a Constitution that no longer exists? It won't matter if that dictator is a Republican or a Democrat. America will cease to exist in either case. I may be voting for a Democrat president for the first time in my life this year, but I am not [censored] blind.

Can I get an Amen! Neo-liberals. The corporate branch of the Democratic Party.

"Edward Snowden blew the whistle on it, and is, IMHO, one of the great American heros for doing so."

Snowden, a hero? He is a COWARD! He took classified information over time and then he RAN. He ran because he was afraid. He did not have the courage of the convictions he claimed, he ran. If he had a true crisis of conscience, he would've taken what he could on the NSA Metadata program and passed it to the press like others who suffered a crisis of conscience. Then suffered the punishment of the courts, but no, he ran. Snowden could have done something like Cassius Clay, later to become Mohammed Ali - a True American Hero.

Cassius Clay, declared Conscientious Objector Status during the Vietnam War. He refused to enter military service and go to Vietnam. Cassius Clay went to trial, was convicted went to jail, became Mohammed Ali. Having served his time he was released and became the greatest Boxer known. Mohammed Ali had the courage of his convictions. Mohammed Ali did not run. Snowden ran; like Trump hiding behind his daddies money, and ran like the other cowards who hid in Canada, Sweden and other countries.

President Donald (...) Trump* and Edward Snowden are cut from the same bolt of colored cloth, yellow cloth.

Obama was handed an enormous rat's nest of Republican corruption and the ensuing economic collapse. A lot of things he hoped to accomplish never happened...Why? Republican intransigence that's why.

Mitch McConnell.

Every time anyone makes a move to make anything better, Republicans stand up against it.

Calls for legislation to stop police brutality? Republicans against it.

Calls to end systemic racism? Republicans are against it.

Calls to provide for basic medical care? Republicans are against it.

Calls to give trillions of dollars to wealthy corporations?

Republicans are all in favor!

Calls to end the torture of captives? Republicans in favor of torture.

Calls to end surveillance on civilians? Shut up and sit down Obama!

A certain amount of spying is going to happen, that's why we have spies. That's why the CIA and the FBI exist.

I dunno what bug got into Snowden's ass but if he couldn't do his job without stealing he didn't belong there in the first place.

A lot of ugly things go on in the back channels of government. Both parties are involved. But one party is uglier than the other.

Edward Snowden is a traitor, a fool, and a willing tool of ACTUAL tyrannies who ACTUALLY massively abuse the individual liberties of their citizens.

So you're saying he should get the 2024 GOP presidential nomination?

HAH! laugh Okay, that was funny smile.

If I had to make a guess, I'd say Nikki Haley is someone to keep an eye on. But that may be another thread.

Niki Haley has been silent on President Donald (...) Trump's* shenanigans. She is political dead as far as the country goes, because of it. Now, Mitt Romney is another story.

Mitt Romney will never get more than 30% of the vote in a republican primary. He's pissed off the po'buckers & Jesus crowd by not kissing Trump's ass.

That would be great if they ran her: Republican men, and most Republican women are not going to vote for a woman. It's just not in their worldview to have a woman in charge, no matter how competent she is. Hell, they voted for Trump, the "successful businessman" who bankrupted two casinos. That shows you what they think of competence.

....did you miss Sarah Palin? Or the Thatcher Prime Ministership in the UK?

I think you may be surprised. smile She will probably be at a bit of a disadvantage because of that, but, that will be in the Primary, not the General.

For populism of all sides, a demonstrated ability to competently make trade-offs is a detriment, not a selling point.

Populists of all sides are surplus to requirements.

I suspect very few Republicans voted for Thatcher. And besides, that was in the UK, where they have had a woman as the head of government for decades.

Republicans accepted Palin as VP, because they don't think the VP actually does anything. In her case, they probably thought she would fetch McCain a cold one while he watched football, which she seems to be quite competent at. I don't think you can draw any conclusions for her mostly scandalous term as Alaska's Governor. Alaskans don't really want their Governor to do much but send the oil checks.
