Quote:
American intelligence officials have concluded that a Russian military intelligence unit secretly offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants for killing coalition forces in Afghanistan — including targeting American troops — amid the peace talks to end the long-running war there

...

The intelligence finding was briefed to President Trump, and the White House’s National Security Council discussed the problem at an interagency meeting in late March, the officials said. Officials developed a menu of potential options — starting with making a diplomatic complaint to Moscow and a demand that it stop, along with an escalating series of sanctions and other possible responses, but the White House has yet to authorize any step, the officials said,” the newspaper explained. “Any involvement with the Taliban that resulted in the deaths of American troops would also be a huge escalation of Russia’s so-called hybrid war against the United States, a strategy of destabilizing adversaries through a combination of such tactics as cyberattacks, the spread of fake news and covert and deniable military operations.

Fox & Friends Saturday co-anchor Griff Jenkins reported on the NYT Times story this morning, but left out any mention of Trump’s involvement in the story.

While running through headlines, Jenkins said “And get this: Russia is accused of paying the Taliban to kill U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. The New York Times reporting Moscow offered the extremist group bounties on coalition forces during peace talks.”

Maybe he knew maybe he didn't. It's generally safe to assume that for the most part he knows nothing and cares less.

Whomever it is that briefs him on these things gives him little information and none that will upset him.

Maybe the allegation is completely false. Afghan militants don't need a bounty to kill the interlopers. The press needs shite like this to throw red meat to the anti-Trumpers.

Were they supposed to collect dogtags? Fingers? How were they expected to confirm the kills? Do radical Afghan militants wear body cams?

You don't need crap like this to make Trump look bad.

I just watched the guy who was Obama's intelligence briefer. Its been reported several times, in the last 3 years, that Trump does not read any reports and is only briefed once a week (most of the time). Obama's guy said he briefed Obama first thing in the morning and also at the end of the day.

Trump, however, gets his intelligence from a variety of sources; ie. conspiracy theorists, purveyors of baloney, etc. just for starters.

Now Republiclowns see Trump for the traitor to America that his is...and not during the Ukraine investigation and subsequent Impeachment? Too little, too late.

I think we are all getting a little tired of the 'Trump is a Moron" defense. If he's too stupid to know about Putin's bounty, he's too stupid to be President.

NYTimes reporter who broke the story on AM Joy today:

Quote:

Trump was briefed IN MARCH! He was given a menu of response options. He picked nothing.

Now he had a friendly call with Putin, and wants to let Russia back into the G7. And withdraw some American troops from Germany.

This is treason in my book. I don't know what they have on him, but it must be a doozy. Would anybody do this just for money? I bet Pence was briefed on this as well. They should both be impeached and imprisoned. Senate Republicans: This is your last chance. Impeach them now and some of you might keep your jobs. If you don't, the GOP is finished.

AND apparently Bolton says he advised Trump all about it. I suspect, when asked about that, he will say that they removed it from the book as it was a secret.

This cannot be a good thing for our Dear Leader?

A more likely issue would be if it is based on reporting that is single-INT, or from not highly-validated sources.

But we'll see (perhaps).

Trump can't be expected to remember things! Especially things he doesn't like. Those just get moved to the Fake News section of his brain.

Well, he has important things on his mind. On the fourth he is going to watch fireworks at mt Rushmore. Now we are being told that Trump wants his face on Mt Rushmore too! That's only because he feels he is at least as good as them there already?

I watched the get together to watch the fireworks last night. VERY few were wearing masks and the subject was, basically, how wonderful the Confederacy statues were a wonderful thing and represented how great our history (apparently of traitors and slavery) is. It was yet another Trump time of strangeness.

it dawned on me that we just might be living in an insane asylum. Think on it. We cannot leave and the entire rest of the world think we are insane.

Strange times?

It's been eight days since the New York Times, revealing that the Russian intelligence agency known as the GRU has been paying bonuses to Taliban fighters to kill Americans, and that this intelligence had been reported to Trump and had been known at least since March. The story was subsequently confirmed by the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal and the AP.

Meanwhile, Rightwingers are spouting the WH line:

Quote:
nO vErIFiCatIOn!

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany assured us that “Neither the President nor the Vice President were briefed on the alleged Russian bounty intelligence.”

Thus began Trump's Sergeant Schultz defense: "I know nothing." crazy

America deserves better than the lying, no-nothing creep that Rightwingers put into the Oval Office.
