Journalist Kevin M. Kruse, in a July 7, 2020 article for Vanity Fair, argues that President Obama was too nice for his own good - and stresses that if Obama’s former vice president, Joe Biden, defeats President Donald Trump in November, he shouldn’t make the same mistake.

Quote:
Whether it was Wall Street bankers or CIA torturers, Obama insisted he wanted to “turn the page” and “look forward as opposed to looking backwards.” A range of wrongdoers paid no price and, as a result, many went on to make the same mistakes again.

What say you Ranters - should Donald Trump and his minions like Bill Barr pay a price for what they've done to America?

Should Donald Trump pay a price?

Biden's already promised not to pardon any of them. If his AG and other AGs around the country see a duty to indict people, Biden will support that.

Well, the Supremes decided, NOBODY is above the law and anybody can be indicted and stand trial for breaking the law - INCLUDING a president! The problem is that, now, to go after law breakers any charges need to be re-heard which also means that if Trump and fellow travelers get jerked into court its unlikely to have any sentences before 2021 and maybe longer. The good thing is that Trump can no longer claim he can do what he wants.

It is neither Biden's nor Congresses duty to punish the president or his followers. They are tasked with repairing the damage. They are not cops and detectives, they are legislators.

But neither is it their task to protect any of them. If crimes were committed then they should charged.

After January 20th I don't ever want to hear trump's name again. I never want to see another photo. He can be in jail or golfing, I don't care.

I think an argument could be made that Trump is a high flight risk defendant, so no bail for him. My main thought today, is that somebody will probably kill Roger Stone before he gets indicted for some of his many other crimes in February. Commuting his sentence seems like it fits with a RICO prosecution of the whole Trump gang. So lots of people would love it if he was sleeping with the fishes.

It's safer for criminals to serve their sentences, in terms of assassination. Everybody feels they have been punished, though maybe not enough. But pardons or commutation leaves people feeling they got off because of corruption, and need to be punished extra-legally.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him visit Russia and never leave there. We are told that there is something like 400 suits pending against him, something over 30 female accusers ready to attack, and a huge pile of debts.

As usual, in the fullness of time...............

They would have a big military parade for him. Hero of the Motherland medal and all.

Russia doesn't like Trump. They helped him because he was weak and stupid. He made America weak and stupid which is what Russia wants.

After January 20th they aren't gonna have any use for him either.

It's nice to see your political enemies swinging from the trees or even to drink from their skulls. But it sets a bad precedent.

Biden and the next congress have plenty to do without re-impeaching Trump. Or hiring Mueller to do another investigation.

What there needs to be is legislation to correct some systemic problems and a flurry of executive orders to counteract those of Trump. He'll be dead soon one way or the other anyway...or a drooling idiot.

Oh, I doubt he would survive there for long. They would just milk it for all the anti-American propaganda possible and then bury him in an unmarked grave out in the countryside.

As for Congress or President Biden, prosecuting the Trump gang is not their job. They don't have to waste a second on that. That's why we have prosecutors and Attorney's General. If America is to get back on track as a Nation of Laws, then the guilty have to be punished. We're not talking about political differences here. We are talking about actual crimes which have to be punished or the next asshat who wins office will try the same BS. For that matter, I bet they could convict Flynn for perjury if they can just wait until Trump is out of office. Not for lying to the FBI, but for lying to the court when he pleaded guilty and then tried to change his mind. I bet there are tons of things they could indict Stone for: He's been doing this criminal stuff for decades.

Hopefully, the Trump's co-conspirators in the Senate lose their job in November 2020 too. Then, Congress can write laws so that a Trump presidency never happens again.
