Clearly some are in need of a reminder:

Criminal Convictions by Administration Executive Branch – Past 50 Years:

Nixon – 11
Ford – 1
Carter – 0
Reagan – 7
GHWBush - 1
Clinton - 2
W Bush – 8
Obama – 0
Trump – 1

TOTAL
Republicans = 29
Democrats = 2

The punishment is not so much for the defendant, as it is for the next administrations to ponder before committing crimes. If crime has no cost, everybody will do it. And that criminal administration could well be Democratic. Just because Democrats seem to rarely commit crimes in office does not mean it's impossible.

True.

My point is that the people who claim to be "Law and Order" are the people who are committing the crimes. Just as the people who scream "voter fraud" ARE the people who are committing voter fraud.

Weird how things work out that way. smile

Furthermore, it sets a terrible (and extremely dangerous) precedent. Do we really want to convince future Presidents that the only way they can make sure they aren't personally gone after as part of a revenge-cycle between the factions is not to peacefully give up power in accordance with our rules and norms?

'Cuz, the last time I'm aware of a Republic creating that incentive structure, eventually, one of the leading Executives (guy name of Julius) decided he wasn't willing to sacrifice himself to maintain a system on behalf of those who would seek to take it.

So we should give the president a pass so a future president doesn't go Juan Peron?

Something like that, yes. Trump has already gone there though, he has re-blogged a follower who says the only good democrat is a dead democrat.

So...once this corrupt regime is out of power and records are released that show criminal activity then yes, prosecute.

But lets not dwell on it at the legislative level or start congressional investigations just for the sake of revenge. That would make "us" just like the republicans. Exile him to Palm Beach and surround him with Secret Service. He's done. He'll be dead soon.

My thoughts are on the future. What's behind us is behind us. This has been, and continues to be a sad time in history. Tilting at that windmill won't make it less so.

How about forcing all candidates for president to submit themselves to being tested by a group of shrinks who could then give the candidate a clean slate or rule that he is not capable enough to have the job?

I am not really convinced that shouldn't apply to most of those who would govern us as well.

I doubt this could ever happen but, at least, its an option?

I didn't see that on the list of qualifications in the Constitution.

One would hope the citizenry of our great nation would be able to discern when a candidate is unfit for office, but apparently that is not the case.

It isn't in the Constitution in so many words, but there is language about what should happen when the President is unfit to carry out the duties of his office. A law could be made that explicitly directs those in the cabinet or specific congressional officers to carry out their roles in that determination, complete with penalties for not doing it. Like immediate loss of office.

We have had a few insane or unfit Presidents before. Hopefully they would rely on expert medical opinion, instead of making it partisan. I suppose that has to be in the law, or they would.

The 25th applies after a Constitutionally qualified person is elected (unless you are a person named Barack Obama, thought by some conservatives to have been born in a foreign country).

Unfortunately we have a situation in which the cabinet and VP would never cross Mr Trump, ergo the 25th would never be under consideration. It helps when the occupant of the WH packs the cabinet with people loyal to him first and foremost.
