Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the demure firebrand who in her 80s became a legal, cultural and feminist icon, died Friday. The Supreme Court announced her death, saying the cause was complications from metastatic cancer of the pancreas.

The court, in a statement, said Ginsburg died at her home in Washington, D.C., surrounded by family. She was 87

I sincerely hope she had good pain management at the end. I've heard pancreas cancer is the worst.

I fear for our country. A century ago, and for more than a dozen years, the Supreme Court was in the grip of a cabal of ultra-conservative Justices known as the Four Horsemen. They opposed every effort to save the country from the Depression. They almost succeeded in bringing the country down. Imagine if there had been 6 of them.

Here, I think, is how its gonna shake out. The Democrats are going to raise all sorts of hell. Republicans in trouble are going to swear to everybody that they will not support a Trump choice to fill the void. This will keep up until after the election. If Trump loses it will make no difference and the lame duck Senate, regardless of election results will support the Trump choice and it will be a done deal. My suspicion is that the Dems, if they do take the entire congress, and the presidency, will then increase the number of Supremes and appoint their own new members.

Oh, My thought is that we really won't have a civil war. If Trump is able to pull that one off all bets are off.

Right-wingers have alway had it in for America. They hate a represenatative democracy and worship at the alter of greed where those with money are the ruling Lords. feudalism style. Hmm

This is precisely my analysis and fear. There is little honor left among Republicans. I can only think of 2 that might buck McConnell. They know their ship is about to be boarded, so they want to spike the cannons.

Had Merrick Garland been allowed to be appointed, I would feel very differently. That, I think, was a pure affront to democracy. This nomination will be a paean to hypocrisy.

What was an affront to Democracy was McConnell not allowing a vote on Garland. McConnell had more than enough votes to deny Garland a seat on the SCOTUS. I can think of only one reason why McConnell did so. It was political payback for Schumer 18 months before Bush's presidency came to an end in 2007, Schumer stating there would be no vote on any Bush's nominees if an opening came open.

these days each party wants political payback and it escalates with each passing year.

You can bet if Biden wins and the democrats regain the senate, the filibuster is totally gone so the democrats can push through anything they want. The days of working together, cooperation and compromise are long gone in this modern era of polarization and mega, ultra high partisanship.

I think that will be the doom of us all.

For what reason would they have not to vote for him? He was too moderate for their extremism????
